Hi all, first post after lurking for a bit.

So I'm in a 5/5 game UTG+3 with 2 limping in. I look down at AdAc and raise to $55. All fold to SB who calls, everyone else folds.

Flop is 7d5d5c. SB check calls my bet of $85.

Turn is 7c, and SB once again check calls to my bet, which this time I make $170. Pot is now sitting at $640 heads up.

River comes out and makes the board as 7d5d5c7c4s. SB shoves for about $480. I tank for a while trying to think about it but eventually call and he shows Q9 of diamonds for a missed flush, and my aces tale the pot.

When I was thinking about calling on the river, I just couldn't believe that he had any hands with a 7 or a 5 in them, and obviously I'm not worried about any other pocket pairs. 68 did cross my mind for a straight, but I couldn't believe either that he'd call an 11x bet preflop with that sort of hand.

Am i missing any logical hands here when thinking about his ranges? TBH I think that my call was actually bad and most of the time I'd be beaten, so I'd also like feedback on that of possible too please.

Raise to $35 pre. Your sizing is excessive and turns your hand pretty face up to be something like {TT+, AK}

As played, I like the flop bet but I prefer to check back the turn for pot control. River is honestly probably a fold as played, given we have the Ace of diamonds in our hand, but congrats on winning the pot.

Why do you think he has no 7x or 5x in his preflop range? If he’s peeling Q9s surely he’s peeling 78s

This is why it’s important to pay attention at the table and gain reads on your opponents, this sounds like a special type of player and if you knew he’d call Q9s for 11x from the SB your life would be a lot easier

Most notable thing I got from your post was your sizings.. your preflop and flop sizings are pretty big. are your sizings balanced (do you take these sizings with your bluffs and other value hands like 99)? Balance is pretty overrated in live poker especially at these stakes, but if someone is paying attention you can become very easy to play against if you’re only taking these sizings with your nutted hands

Thanks for the feedback guys.

My sizings were pretty standard on the table, 10x or more weren't exactly uncommon. But yes I agree that almost anywhere else they're big.

When he showed the Q9 and saw my aces he actually said something like "dammit my bluff didn't work", which tells me I was seen as someone who can be bluffed fairly easily. In that hand I believe I was just committed to stacking off, seeing my aces as gold and by the time I actually thought about what I was doing it was too late.

To answer the question about my betting ranges, yes I would play it the same way with other hands (suited connectors, lower pockets, pure BS bluffing hands, etc) so I like to think that I'm consistent in that regard.

I know that I'm not as good as I think I am, so I've decided to start posting here to get what I view as the best forum for discussion and learning.

Stack sizes are extremely important.

I'm checking back turn, and evaluating river. The five wasn't the best card for your range and if they opponent is smart, he could CRAI and put you in a tough spot.

AP, nice call. I probably make that call at least sometimes depending on my read. Some players really give off tells when they are on a flush draw.
