What hands + boards would you take check/call + donk with? What hands + boards would you take check/call + donk with?

I've seen two threads (one of which I wrote!) where people are having trouble facing large donk bets after the 'donker' check/called the last street.

and

I think it could be a line which is underused as clearly it is confusing to play against. Can you think of any good ways to use it? Can you think of why people are using it, but you're not?

Way too general to answer well, imo. It's a common stackadonk line, it's also used by bad players when they hit a draw or are flopped a monster and are afraid of turn checking through. CLIFs:. Very V dependant, as well as depending on V's view of Hero.

What's a stackadonk line? You mean a line you would use to stack a donk?

Yes. It's basically the opposite of the classic bet flop, check-raise turn line used for over aggro players. This version is for the more passive players who might shut down after you call their flop bet, but call too much and then get themselves committed.

You dont need to be a bad player to lead the turn when you hit a draw. Its a very good line with straights and small flushes when you are confidant the other guy has a big hand.

If you are confident of that and that he ca't fold it, you're going for the stackadonk. I didn't say that only bad players use it, I said they commonly do.

Kind of interesting that it gives you the option to bet scarecards more aggressively if you want too. If you do it with flushes, and have some history with a player, you could turn a mid pair bdfd hand into a decent semi bluff on the turn after c/c flop.

Well, the reason it works so well for value is the same reason it doesn't work well as a bluff.

Garick gave a better answer than I would have.

I would say its very underutilized. Its something I am even working into my game.

When the turn card makes a change to your opponents range such that they're less likely to bet.

Ex.
-Ace high turns in a lp v bb spot vs a smaller cbet where the oop range has a lot of Ax that doesn't want to see a turn xd back.

-Board pairing cards, especially middle pair when you know the pfr cbet is polar.

-straightening cards that improve a lot of the pair + sd in the oop players flop x/c range.

I’ll occasionally use it when it’s HU and I am OOP with a small made hand and think villain is going to c-bet his entire range but x back his air on the turns and I’m not 100% certain I am ahead and don’t want to x/r and would rather see a turn first before deciding to juice the pot bigger and and and ...

As you can see there are a lot of variables. It’s a line I rarely use because I’m seldom playing HU pots OOP but it has its time and place like most unusual or unorthodox lines.
