What do you guys think of "Same Bet"

So what are your guys opinions when someone says "same bet" on the turn after betting or raising on the flop or river on turn. Is this a sign of strength or they are on a draw? I personally never do this but I've come across this couple times now just got me thinking

Re: What do you guys think of "Same Bet"

I consider it pretty fishy because the majority of players I see doing it on any kind of regular basis are amongst the worst players in the room with no concept of bets relative to pot size.

Re: What do you guys think of "Same Bet"

It's a fishy move. We should choose sizing based on what we want accomplished. If, for example, the next street nuts us & we think we can't get away with betting more than what our previous bet was... then fine. Doing it just to do it seems ignorant as it overlooks odds given to our opponents to draw out as well as the max value we can get out of a hand.

Re: What do you guys think of "Same Bet"

Guess I should have made it more obvious that I never do this in my game, but last night in my regular 2/5 game this guy raised me on the flop and I called, turn completed straight draws but was pretty irrelevant and he said "same bet". I folded because my hand was pretty **** but what I'm asking is what do you guys think? I don't think they are ever doing this with the pure nuts, in the heat of the moment I considered reraising but because I could've been drawing dead I decided against it

Grunch from title alone:

I think "same bet" is the same as announcing "please raise me with ATC. I promise to fold."

OK, I go read OP now.

Post title grunch edit: Yeah, I still say the same. I consistency take these pots away. It's basically always a weak TP or less.

Pretty much this, except i dont think its "basically always", ive certainly seen big hands in this spot, because fish spaz with all sorts of hands in all sorts of ways. You should still have FE for a raise, my only point is if he ships over your range dont call him with TPNK lol.

This^^^^...almost always a scared bet, with top pair, on wet boards

Thread over.

Altho I've never heard any of them speak it, women will often bet the same amount on flop, turn and river if they hit top pair or set on the flop.

Re: What do you guys think of "Same Bet"

The same bet is a sign that their hand hasn't changed. I was able to call down 55 that was leading from UTG, a couple days ago, on a nasty board with 88 because a player didn't switch his sizing on any street inclusive of preflop. It can be used as a reverse tell against good players.

The above example is an extreme example.

"Same bet" --> bet 60% on flop, 25% on turn, 15% on river

Looks weak af to me. I see it as a blocker bet, so I'll raise with TP+

Yeah, I was exaggerating for effect. Obv if V ships over your raise, the story has changed. Still, raising "same bet"s on the turn has printed me a lot of money over the years.

Re: What do you guys think of "Same Bet"

Depends on situation. On a draw heavy board it can be villain trying to set a price with a draw. Occasionally villain will do this to try and induce a raise. Rarely I've seen a fish with terrible bet sizing do this when they flop/turn a nut hand and don't want anybody to fold.

It is most commonly a weak made hand. They can usually be raised off their hands but watch out for stations that will make these weak bets and then refuse to give up.

Re: What do you guys think of "Same Bet"

I'm with G; "same bet" from a straightforward ABC player is usually a weakish TP, in my experience.

Course most players who make this bet are fairly meh players (calling stations), so unless I know they have a bet/fold button, I'd still be wary of attempting to get them off the hand (but it's possible I play too conservative in these situations).

This is more or less the answer I was looking for, thanks. Next time it happens I will reraise and report back what happens. I encourage you guys to do the same, interesting to see the results

Re: What do you guys think of "Same Bet"

Player dependent really. I've seen both extremes (weak/strong hand) on verbal and non-verbal bets. A semi-solid read on the player in question will show you the right answer. Most players it will be weak in my experience though.

Re: What do you guys think of "Same Bet"

Well if I'm a pigeon you're a.. umm...a turtledove! Yeah..

Weak made hands like TPWK are no longer weak if they spike 2p or trips. So "it's a weak made hand" and "the hand strength hasn't changed" are basically the same thing. But "weak made hand" is more specific. People very rarely take this line flopping a set or a straight even if their hand strength hasn't changed.

From most players it's a weak made hand period. From some incredibly inexperienced (usually passive) players with no concept of relative bet sizing it can be strong but these players are less likely to say "same bet" specifically and just bet the same amount.
