I have read many hand history threads over the years during my lurking time and it really is hard to find someone who fits that criteria there with the exception of someone like dgi. Seems like he is busy with the other forum though. I haven't seen as much volume here lately. I only browse the chat thread to read all the crazy stories and it seems like there may be some people there that fit the criteria the best, but I am not sure who would be committed or would want to do it.

It's hard to decide on a person without knowing what criteria venice10 and the other mods are looking for. I know venice10 said the criteria is wider, but there has to be something you'd like to see in a new mod. Anyone can make fantasy football threads and plan Las Vegas trips. Frankly I don't think that is a reason to have a mod. That is my personal opinion. Are you wanting someone like APD? What purpose would they serve if it's just fantasy football, Las Vegas, and cracking jokes?

APD I understand where you are coming from with regards to dealing with problems in life, but it sounds like you need to exercise better self control. It's ok to take a break. If you didn't want to be demoded you shouldn't have done it. I won't act like I know how you feel, especially because I don't know what's going on, but I hope you get to working on yourself and fixing both the issues you are going through and what seems like are some personal problems you may have.

So I guess I am with Richard Parker, why does the forum need another mod? If I have to choose one though it would be BigSkip because he is a funny f*****.
You suck.

I should qualify.

I don't like anyone and nobody like me.

But I can't live up the expectation of my idol, venice.

Would want to be a mod so my strat threads get more activity. Seems like a legit reason to take the job.

Would not want to be a mod if everyone just assumed i know what im doing at poker and agreed with me because im a mod.

You sir have no idea what you are talking about with regard to APD.

Iit's not only presumptuous but also just plain rude to comment on how someone is dealing with a situation if you don't know the half of it.

Don't know ya, but, well wishes APD.

Regarding selecting a new moderator... I think there is a sort of "cool kids club" among the most frequent posters. I understand most moderator suggestions and even the pool of potential moderators will come from the group of this sub-forums most frequent posters. I just want to point out that whomever becomes moderator should be looking to be of service to all members of this sub-forum and not just the most frequent posters.

If you read through the 'low content" chat thread it's not uncommon to see frequent posters (even potential moderator nominees) throwing shade on less frequent posters and bemoaning the lack of intelligent conversation in strategy threads. An elitist attitude is not a quality I would seek in a potential moderator.

Having said that, I understand that the more frequent posters also are what makes this sub-forum thrive. I also understand they will interact with a moderator the most often so it's obviously important they have a loud vote in who fills in for APD.

Overall, I feel if we can get a replacement moderator who will put in even half as much effort as APD, I think this sub-forum will continue to be successful.

I just wanted to make a point about ensuring the next moderator cares about inclusion and doesn't look down upon the less experienced posters, as this sub-forum seems to attract a lot of newer players. APD did a great job of coming up with ways to encourage participation from all members of this sub-forum. I just want whomever comes next to ensure that continues.

I'd like see this next moderator try and merge social gap between the "cool kids" in the chat thread and the players trying to improve in the strategy threads. Obviously, the better players and more frequent posters understand sharing valuable information hurts their bottom line. Yet, I'd hope a new moderator can find a way to encourage communication between the more skilled posters and the less experienced ones, even if it's just socially and not critical thinking about hands.

FTR, many regs in the low content thread go out of their way to welcome new participants in those threads. The same can be said when infrequent/unknown posters were able to attend the meet up. At one time, every one in that thread was new to it (except Venice - the last time he was a n00b the Teapot Dome Scandal was in the news.)

I'm not really sure how relevant this is to the 'next mod' conversation, but there's a really simple way to bridge the gap between the 'cool kids' as you say and everyone else.
Come post in the chat thread.

We never turn anyone away.

IMO, the mods are here to:

1) keep the strat threads on topic, i.e. lock off-topic, unfocused, and/or inappropriate threads
2) keep the conversation civil, i.e. issue warnings and bans.
3) offer helpful strat occasionally

No mention of social engineering at all...

(BTW... best way to join the cool kids club is to come to the 2015 WSOP LLSNL Shat-Show 1/1NL game and kill off the last of your liver. I am sincerely hoping Ace will be back to normality by then -- no one can only imagine what could happen to us all if Skip is in charge.)

What do mods do that we don't see? We just see the posts pretty much, and the PMs warning us of a ban.

If it's a bigger time commitment than it looks it might remove anyone with a family or FT job.

Plus being helpful should not necessary be a requirement.

In this forum, we do most of our modding out in the open. We rarely delete, only lock, so you see pretty much what we're up to. Occasionally we PM someone a warning or (even rarer) an infraction that the general community doesn't see. This is a pretty on-point community though. We don't have to mod with a very heavy hand.

I will say that my posting has gone down a bit since I became a mod, as the first thing I do when I log on is check for threads that need my attention, and only post if I still have energy and interest after that. That said, I don't think I actually spend any more time on the forum than I did before I became a mod, it's just that less of it is posting.

One of the things I look at is time spend in the forum. The fastest way to burn out is to feel obligated to read the forum, rather than doing what you'd do anyway. Like Garick, I post less than I would as a regular poster. In a normal month, the amount of time I spend "modding" (as compared to reading what I'd normally would) can be measured in minutes.

Even though I don't personally know anyone in LLSNL, I'm proud to be a member of this poker community. Sad to hear a valued member like APD is going through a challenging time. I send a prayer and good thoughts to you APD.

Good nominations in the thread. I'd lean toward someone with many hours of live experience, who is able to communicate their thought processes well. Politeness counts just as it does at the tables.
