Ways to improve your game from home? Ways to improve your game from home?

Aside from reading books, what do you all suggest to improve your overall live low stakes play? It seems like reading books all day long could only get you so far and actual experience is necessary. I am only able to play 1/2 live about twice a month and reside in the United States so I cannot play online for real money.

What about play money on Full Tilt/Stars? Or are the players so bad that it's not even worth it?

I would attempt to organize some home games with friends but I don't know anyone who knows anything about poker to play with, so that is kind of a waste of time.

Thanks everyone.

+1. Reading a bunch and playing infrequently will create pretty small returns. If you don't want to trust in a US facing site then I respect that. Eventually you're going to need the repetitions of playing though IMO.

I would also add that going into the depths of the Best of LLSNL and COTM mega thread enclosed in it is truly great. Don't just read the first post either, read a lot of each thread.

Also, listen to Bart Hanson's podcasts (Named cash plays and crush live poker) on youtube or deucescracked.

Deposit a small amount of money on sites like merge or bovada open to Americans and play micro stakes. Obv not the same as live, but it'll give you the volume and help nail down fundamentals.

+1 to this. Too many players are bat**** crazy & terrible with play money. I did that for a while when other options were scarce, and the transition back to real games required some serious Clockwork Orange style reeducation.

On my 3rd podcast right now, these are great. Thanks for the heads up!

Cool, I could drop $25 on one of those and play the minimum games. I just checked and supposedly they give you a bonus of double your initial deposit, so $50 total would be roughly 10-12 buy ins at the micro cash tables.

How do you feel about the difficulty of Bovada vs Carbonpoker(merge)? Most people seem to be saying Bovada is softer.

Also, how are SnG micro stake tournys for developing your live cash game play, or should I stick solely to micro (.02/.04NL) cash games?

LOL.

I have played a bit on full tilt cash games and the amount of shoving/reloading is infuriating. Definitely a waste of time from what I've seen.

I only get out once a week for a poker session, but find that responding to a few hand histories a day keeps my mind sharp regarding my game. Simply "grunch" a hand history (i.e. respond to the original post without looking at anyone else's comments so your thoughts aren't tainted/influenced), and then afterwards see how in-line / out-of-line you are with everyone else (and then further whether there are good arguments for being out-of-line if you are).
