Apologize in advance if this is not the right forum for this type of question, it seems like most threads are hand analyses.

Anyway, yesterday in a 1/2 game a few things occurred that got me thinking more about image at the table. At one point my set got cracked by a guy who called a 2/3 pot bet on the flop with a gutshot and no other draw. I was a little annoyed by this and other players around me made comments about how they were confused by his play. I said something like 'terrible call' to the guy sitting next to me. Regardless I didn't change my style and the annoyance faded quickly.

Then about 20 minutes later, I triple barrel bluffed on a J-10-3 board with KQo that whiffed on all streets and got called down by some guy with a middle pair. The guys around me said something like 'How the hell is he calling you with that?' Again I was annoyed for a minute, and then hunkered down and decided to just tighten up even more.

Shortly afterwards, I was dealt AA twice. First time I l-rr and the guy who caught me bluffing with KQo insta-shoves a $300 stack on me and I stack him. The second time, I 3! an ep raise, and a different guy (both who witnessed the previous) insta shoves on me with KK.

So I got to wondering if my visible annoyance in previous hands somehow altered their decisions? Has anyone used this to their advantage? i.e. pretending to tilt while really just playing monsters?

the problem with this is
1) you need to pick up a monster quickly

2) your complained and visible annoyance will upset and drive away the very fish you want to stay

Someone who is bluffing three streets and 3-betting pre naturally draws more action, especially at lower stakes where these "standard" plays actually do not occur anywhere enough to an optimal frequency. I suspect this has more to do with it than your "tilt."

Look up "entitlement tilt".

Then don't.

Then give action when it is +EV.

Squeeze play.

HJ, CO and BTN steals.

Relish pocket pair flips when you are 55-45 if the Villain calls you.

Attack the small stacks, respect the deep.

Don't tap the tank.

I don't pretend to tilt if I'm not tilted. I'm already easy to tilt, so I don't pretend if I don't have to.

What I do is I give off the image of fast and loose sometimes. Raising lots of pots, making stabs. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But when I do pick up a monster, most people think, "o, he has nothing, he's been raising all the time, I'm going to call him down this time, and show him who's boss." Then, they give you lots of money.

The key is to know who's getting annoyed by the fast and loose play, which is going to be mostly everybody, if you know what you're doing and win lots of small pots, but don't give away money easily.

Fast and loose image can be seen as tilty. But just keep it under control (don't give away too much money) and you will profit in the long run as people become confused.

Pretty sure it had a lot more to do with your set got cracked and you triple barrelled bluffed than any "annoyance" you showed.

Don’t do this. When other players are confused by his play, if I say anything I’d prefer to defend his call and praise him for hanging in there to make his hand. Say that it was the right call because it paid off for him.

Not everybody is there to make money. If your opponent wants to make some bad calls and hope to get lucky, then encourage them to stay. Looking visibly annoyed just makes it more of an unpleasant game for the fish. Let them enjoy it when they win.

You don’t want to be one of those guys who chases away the fish, and then complains that the table was too tight and there was no action.

Good point. I'm usually pretty good about keeping it fun, but when I'm running very bad I can definitely say things that make the environment more tense and not as friendly for the fish.

It's also difficult for me because like most of us I'm extremely competitive and I come from different sportive arenas that were 99% skill, so I have to retrain myself.
