5/5 NL

Hero in SB with QJo ($950)
3 limps to hero who checks
BB checks

Flop:
KQTr

Checks to villain in CO who raises to $15
Hero calls
All else fold

Turn:
9x

Hero checks
Villain bets $40
Hero calls (Check raise here?)

River:
Qx

Hero ???

Did I play too passively on the turn? Should I be leading river since I block so many full house combos? This particular player is a somewhat knowledgeable LA reg and doesn’t seem to gamble with many hands. AJo could be a hand he’s limping with, but there aren’t many combos of those either. What’s the best line here?

I like pre and flop.

On the turn I like c/c and lead the river.

Or I like lead the turn and lead the river.

I think a c/r on the turn is a bit of an over play in this situation since it’s hard to have any c/r bluffs.

And c/c turn c riv is bad because v can easily check back 2 pair

You don’t want to c/r turn because you think it’s an overplay but you want to lead the river when not only AJ but even some two pairs steer ahead of you? Doesn’t make sense.

OP, check/evaluate the river. If he bets again, you’re chopping at best.

WP. I would c/c river and expect to chop almost always.

Don't lead flop.

In this exact situation you should always be cr turn and betting this river as well. He's going to have Qx, Jxs, KJ way more often than he has a boat.

Don't c/r turn unless opp is completely brain dead, which OP stated is not the case. You rep a Jack perfectly.

Against people who aren't total idiots, there is no value to be made in this spot. It's extremely easy for either of you to have a straight, and that is mutually obvious to any pair of semi-competent players.

Villain has JT, QJ, KT, J9. The only hands that villain bets turn with are Jx. Assume he never limps AJ from CO.

You should be trying to force people off a most likely chop especially when your opponents never have the nuts. River card is perfect to do so, it increases your fold equity and gives your opponent and excuse to fold/ not look like an idiot. You'll never get 3b bluffed either, your opponent will always just fold or call.

OP specifically said he could limp AJ. Many do at LLSNL. And we don't rep AJ particularly well either since we completed pre, c/c otf. On the river, as played, you can consider c/jam or overbet donk to blow him off the chop, but him having AJ in his range and presumably never folding it means we're not freerolling and need to calculate the EV.

We also do not rep a boat ap if Villain knows we are actually competent, but maybe he doesn't. Bad players can show up with a boat on this river.
