Turned boat, am I stupid for not snap-calling? Turned boat, am I stupid for not snap-calling?

Game is 6-handed. Few people left the table to jump into a donkament. Will get more players shortly. Villain is UTG. Mid 20s white guy. Seems to not want to drop premium pairs when they are vulnerable. Ran his stack up big but lost a big pot when he 3B QQ in SB and got one caller. Flop was A hug with two clubs. He checked. Player bet $50 into a pot of $150 with $100 behind. Villain goes into the tank. Other player finally tells him, “Look man, your kings or queens are no good. I have the ace.” He looked at him and said, “Oh yeah!” And check raised all in. Villain snapped with AKs and scooped a nice pot.

Villain has $450. Hero covers.
Villain is UTG. Raises to $12. I call on button with Ah9h. I’m not gonna lie, I was a little tilty at this moment. This is a loose call for me heads up. Let’s see a flop:
($28) 9dKdAc
Villain leads for $25. I call. Thought about raising, but this guy likes to stay in the driver’s seat. I’ll let him bet my hand for me.
TURN ($78) Ad
Holy sh*t! We turned a f*cking boat. Villain bets $30. I smooth call. Don’t want to lose my customer.
RIVER ($138) Qc Villain checks. I bet $80. He tanks for a bit. Moves in. Hero?
I hesitate because I don’t have the nuts. Clearly the only hands that I fear that beat me would be AK of spades or AQ of spades. Maybe the under full of KK. I doubt he’d lead the turn with pocket queens.
I’ll give the results now, I called and he had KcJs. Nice pot for me. I bought a pretty $1,000 chip at th end of the night after a few more hours. My question is, as played do we snap call or think just a sec before putting the money in to consider what bluffs are in his range vs value hands when we’re this god damn strong? I mean, I felt like I gave a weak player (wouldn’t exactly classify him as a donkey) too much credit before I acted.

people don't check boats on the river they would just go bet, bet, bet or check raise when they hit the boat.

what i'm trying to get at is he wouldn't check AK the nutz on the river

He can value jam worse boats or possibly a flush. He's shown a propensity to spaz. Snap call.

I got the impression on the turn he didn’t put me on an ace (as I said, I was a bit tilting and he probably knew that). I think he felt his king was ahead at that point.

I think it's pretty natural for someone who posts on 2+2 to give their decisions a little thought. Clearly your read was off on not realizing he was a donkey.

If he thought your river bet was a bluff he had an easy call.

If he thought you were value-betting, pretty much no one is folding their value-betting range to his check-raise, and his check-raise therefore made no sense.

To me the most interesting part of the hand is updating your read against this player and affirming the fact that we always need to assume that a certain percentage of the time our Villain's are acting without a good reason; most often it's pointless aggression.

Snap call. Folding the top of your range is out of question.

Your not "stupid" for giving it some thought. But you would be if you folded lol
