I got a twitter request for a golf story from a former denizen of this board...figure it out. I have many some with gambling some just in the normal course of competitive golf. This is the latter.

I was like 17 I think and this was one of my final junior tournaments. i was a pretty meh junior maybe like a 5-6 handicap at the time. Had some game but think of the worst most tilting poker player you know, put a golf club in his hand as a teenager and he didn't tilt half as hard as I did on a golf course.

Anyway this tournament had 18 holes stroke play qualifying with top 16 making match play. i shoot 75 I think and am like 5 or 6 seed. I beat some stooges in the first 2 rounds which puts me in the semi's. Win a close match against a guy who was actually better than me and lo and behold I'm in the finals. I'm playing a dude from NY or something who is also clearly a better player than me at the time. This is like a 2nd or 3rd teir junior tournament but still would be nice to win.

I get of to a good start and am like 2 up at the turn. He starts pressing a bit and I win a few more holes and am 4 up with 6 to play. This is a whitewash. At my peak I could close out Tiger 4up with 6 to play (maybe). Make a few pars and its over.

There also are like 25-30 people following us including the Baltimore Sun's golf reporter at the time. I got the interview nailed in my head already and I'm gonna lay some **** on him.

I can still remember the feelings. I wanted to **** in my pants I was so ****ing nervous. 13 is a nothing par 4...maybe 320 yards long. I hit it right down the middle, he's making bogey the whole way...so I make double 3up.

14 is a long Par 5 up a hill. Hit it on the street and never finish the hole. 2up

15 is shorter par 5 down a hill with water in front. Hit 2 in the water and don't finish the hole. 1up

I am laying on some language now...**** this, Eat ****, **********, etc etc. Mom and Dad are there...pretty proud moment.

16 I actually make a bogey somehow and he makes par so we are even now.

What a ****ing loser!

17 we both make bogey and stand on the 18th tee of a long uphill par 3..maybe 210 yards or so. Can't get a hold of myself, can't relax I am in full blown tilt.

So now there are 50+ people standing around. he hits a meh shot up off the green. He's gonna make par or bogey so the pressure should be off right? Nah...I shank it 40 yards right into the woods. Reload and barely get it airborn. Finally get it on the green lying 4. GG me.

The other chop is laughing and having a good old time and I literally want to wrap my putter around his neck.

This all happened in probably less than 75 minutes. Like if I make 2 pars I probably close him out on 16 or 17. Instead I blew an insurmountable lead.

I totally hated Modest Mouse when they were popular, and could not figure out why people with otherwise the same musical taste as me raved about them when I thought they were boring pretentious garbage. Just heard a song off the new album, and actually liked it. Maybe just their singles were boring pretentious garbage? Or maybe they got better.

I have the same dynamic with Jack White (minus the new stuff being good). I cannot figure out why that no-talent ass-clown is the darling of alt radio.
