1-2 mid day Saturday.
Villain is an older white guy who is fairly good and can be tricky. He usually shows up with the goods but can bluff.
Hero, MAWG usually plays TAG but can LAG, right now playing TAG.

OTTH

straddle pot
V1 (500) UTG limps for 6
1 other limper
Hero (500) Small Blind wakes up with AA makes it 40
BB and straddle fold
V1 calls
other limper folds
Pot (94)
87::8
Hero bets 50
V1 Raises to 225

Hero

Can I really fold AA here? I really don't like risking my stack with just a 1 pair hand. V1 usually has the goods but can bluff, this is a paired board, if he had anything wouldn't he wait to raise until the turn?

Three questions.....

Do you have the A of clubs?

Do you play this way pre-flop with only premiums?

Does this Villain think you could have anything between JTsuited and AA here or just QQ+?

How long have you played with V? Have any history with him? What's his perception of you? Have you shown down any hands recently?

On the surface, this looks like a sigh-whatever GII spot. He could have lots of PP's here and some combo draws.

I hate these spots so much. I guess fold and pretend you had AKs. Getting stacked by 86s would ruin my mood and the session which I assume you are into early given it is mid-day. Blah blah slightly ahead way behind.

I do not have the Ace of clubs. Villain knows I am fairly aggressive if I have a hand in the blinds, my 3! range here is AQ suited, AK off and JJ+ to an UTG open limper and and one caller. I don't need to include some bluffs in my range here, but have not.

He likely thinks I have QQ+ AK

I play with him for a few hours every friday and saturday, he is older so he usually doesn't play for more than a few hours. The table does respect his play. A couple of weeks ago he was playing a short stack, I had AA in the big blind and the Button raised with KK, We got it all in and he called 100 with 78cc. So I really felt like he had the suited connectors in his range here.

Considering this, this is a fold for me. Your hand is essentially face up. It makes no sense for someone to raise with trips unless they know what you have and think you will never fold.

His raising range has you crushed here and his combo draws are basically flips.

your hand is face up and he knows it
fold and move on
your way behind or a coin toss at best
find a better spot

This is not a 3! pot.

Your read on this guy says he can bluff, but ime low stakes bluffing is taking small stabs at uncontested pots. When stacks go in guys often have it. However this board is one where he will have a lot of combos he could make this move with if he is capable of putting in $500 on a semi bluff. He is probably not all that good if he is limp/calling utg in a straddle pot. Against a laggier player this is a trivial call off. Against a nit its an easy fold. Absent a stronger read I think folding is fine given the average player type at these stakes.

Yikes. This sucks. 1 pair with no real front or back doors. I wouldn’t make a habit out of it but gold is probably standard here with 200 bb’s behind. He could easily have an over pair also so I wouldn’t berate a caller. I love the preflop sizing which actually causes some V’s to read weakness. If I shove here, that’s my logic. But I fold.

The more I think about this, the more I think it's a fold. He's raising not expecting you to fold an overpair, so I think laying it down is fine.

But in game, it's hard as hell. After the fact, behind a computer, it's easy to say fold.

I fold here given that you've seen him go preflop and call large bets with suited connectors. If he was truly an OMC i call it off...unhappily.

I prefer a flop check.

x2, check it. Hate your raise size pre, it’s just so obvious what your range is when you go this big. Are you raising $40 with KJs 88 A9s etc? Probably not. I love these spots when hero’s range is 100% face up because you probably wouldn’t play other hands this way

yeah This sucks but why would he raise an 8 in position? Unless he’s scared of clubs. Or he’s making a play assuming you whiffed and c bet with ace king which is possible I guess

I’ve seen v’s take this line with pocket 9s 10s jacks believe it or not also.

9 10 of clubs can do this also. I just don’t see him raising trip 8s right away. Especially such a large amount. Possible though.

For 2.5bb, which it looks as if you'd be playing for, just fold and muck. Yes, he could be on a draw or have JJ, but more power to him.

He could easily raise an 8 here hoping/knowing many players can't fold AA/KK.

It seems as if you really need to start mixing up your play.
