2/5 game. Villain is a friendly whale who loves bluffing. A previous hand was hero flopping an ace as pre flop aggressor in a HU pot, he lead turn and river and hero scoops.

Hero has AJo and makes it 25 to go. Villain to heroes direct left calls.

Flop: J83r $50
Hero bets 30 and villain SHIPS FOR 500. Hero has it covered. Dream situation or nah?

To play vs. a maniac whale requires an understanding of poker variance.

You are ahead here, or behind. It may seem as though you are flipping a coin....but you are not. Why would that be?

Yah sorry I just read it over again. This hand wasn't thread worthy, it was simply a BRM situation

Why is this a poker exercise and not a flipping of a coin exercise? What factors do you consider when calling off your stack in this situation....and why would you choose the outcome you do?

better?

Grunching.

I mean, it sounds like you flopped the relative nuts. You don't really describe a range or recap any prior hands that gave you your reads on villain. But your words seem to imply that he is a reckless spewtard. Therefore, it sounds like you have his range crushed and I snap call.

Depends on your villain. Just saying he is a maniac whale here isn't enough.

If your villain ships any top pair and some worse hands and ships open ended and gut shot straight draws but won't ship QQ+ or two pair+ then this is an easy call. If his range is AJ/T9/QQ+/two pair+ then it's an easy fold to the over shove.

Grunch after reading only the title: GII.
Ok, now to read the rest.

ETA: on the given info, it seems like a pretty standard call. But as others have said, more info is needed.
You mentioned it was a BRM situation. If the pot scares you or if you can't afford to lose the money, don't play. Generally these are great spots to be in, but you need to be rolled properly and unafraid of the risks.

As the other respondents alluded to, I had to make a leap of faith and hope my interpretation of your vague description was correct. It would be better if you could explain why you have the reads you have, your thought process, and/or any previous hands of note.

I need to see his hands a few times before I call off in this spot.

You mentioned he CALLED you all the way down? What did he have there? You had TPTK in that hand, and he DIDN"T overshove with worse, is that signigant?

Has he overshoved before?

Has he slowplayed anything before?

With the info given, I am folding.

I want to know his shipping tendencies before calling here. I would actually feel happier calling on a drawy board because at least that's congruent with a crazy donk with a bunch of weakass draws in his range.

Call. Enough TP and draws (this board IS drawy) in his range to make it profitable.
