TPGK facing 1/2 PSB on river after PF raise and checking turn TPGK facing 1/2 PSB on river after PF raise and checking turn

So last night, I took as shot at playing live for the first time in a while and for the first time since studying/trying to improve my game and playing a bit more seriously. I must admit I had a good session.

For the first time, I walked away with more money than I went in with. Now I know you will probably say "one session doesn't prove anything" or "it might have been variance" ... but every single time I have played before I always lost all my money within 60 minutes. Last night I was sat at a 5 hour grind, and walked away with 150BB profit.

I would like to post a hand which I was unsure about. It was against one of the agros. Session is £0.50/£1 ... I was in the CO with KQs. Villain is UTG. He limps, UTG+1 Limps, it folds round to Hijack who limps. I raise 6BB, Folds round to the Villain who calls. UTG+1 also calls, HJ folds.

Goes to the flop 3 handed.

10 Q 9 rainbow. Checks round to me and I Cbet around half pot. Both call. Turn is another 9. Checks round to me. I check. River is a 2. Villain bets just over half pot. Folds to me.... Hero?

Now, this guy had been playing a few pots so I know he was playing a ride range, but he'd been hitting set/trips, after straight, after FH. I think he sat down with 80BB, but he'd won a quite a few big pots and was easily sitting 400BB+ deep. This put me off a little bit. It's likely he limp called 9xs or 910s or Q9s to try and stack me. Maybe he knew I was play TAG? Maybe he didn't? Should I have folded? Should I have raised? Should I have called?

That was probably my most uncomfortable hand of the night. Now prior to joining here, studying and trying to improve my game, I would of called probably thinkin hey I have top pair with a king... wooo... but last night I laid it down. Did I make a mistake? I am not sure. But this is why I think last night was different. I was thinking about the situation I was in, etc...

Bet about 1/3 to 1/2 pot OTT. If you are c/r, fold. If V calls, then donks the river, you can safely fold. Because you have checked the turn, I think you have to call the river bet. Otherwise, it looks like you have c-bet, then given up. This is a good hand with SDV and a good place to show a thinking V that they cannot just float your c-bet and take the pot away with nothing OTR. Price is pretty good, too.

How do I spot betting patterns, spotting tells. What common tells do ABC players give? What common tells to fish give etc...

Obviously live you dont get a HUD, so do you keep mental notes on VPIP? I tend to profile people. I was trying to look for patterns in strength and weakness. Any tips would appreciated.
Here is what I do with moderate success. I only take mental notes on largely obvious facts about my opponents. (Do they always limp with their small pocket pairs? Do they consistently chase flush draws even though they are not getting the right price? Do they play too many hands PF? etc...) For more concentrated note taking, I will just type it into my phone. It is much more efficient than trying to remember everything and it doesn't arouse as much angst with the other players as writing things down with pen and paper.

There is not a specific line to take against ABC style players. What I do is try to avoid many pots with them unless I have a monster. There are typically bigger fish at the table to fry and if you happen to be out played by the ABC villain then it is not good for your stack or for your moral.

Against aggros. I think that they force you to tighten up your range a lot. Especially OOP. But don't tighten up so much that whenever you do get a hand you won't get paid off. I'm sure you've heard the old saying "give them some rope and let them hang themselves" that is exactly my tactic against super aggro players.

What you truly need to understand about the game of poker is that it is all about adaptability. The players who evaluate and change gears based on table dynamics are the players who will be more successful in the long run.

Hope this helps.

PS: Don't get a calculator watch. It is -EV for life in general.

Once you read the stickies, you'll realize that:

1. If there were a couple paragraph answer on how to beat LLSNL, everyone would be able to do it and the people hanging around here would be the worst people to ask.

2. One question per thread. It is discouraged to make more than 2 threads per day. You can't absorb more than that in a day. If you think you can, you didn't understand the answers.

As for the hand, I'm not folding to a 1/2 PSB on the river with a queen TP. I only have to be right 25% of the time to make it EV neutral. Checking the turn makes it look like you have AK, which is what everyone thinks you have if you raise pf.
