Tough spot with Top Two? 1/2 NL

effective stacks are roughly 240

Villain doesn't seem like a crazy player, fairly passive

I open AKs UTG to 15; folds around to the BB who asks if I will check it down if he calls; I say I'll give him a free turn card if he calls;

F: AK6 (rainbow); I check back like I said I would;

T: 8 (off suit) ; He bets 5, I make it 15; he then 3 bets me 75 more; what would you do here? he has about 100 behind at this point and I have him covered.

Obviously sets are in his range here but I struggled to figure what else his range consists of ?

If I call turn can I fold to shove on the river getting great price?

thanks for any feedback

I have no idea why you agreed to give him a free turn. That's blasphemy.

It looks to me like he has $135 left after his flop reraise, not $100.

There's just no way I'm folding this. There too many worse 2 pair combos he can have. There also no real reason to shove the turn. Its almost impossible for him to have a draw and you're in position. Call and get all in on any river.

I appreciate that you try to keep the game fun and lighthearted with a “turn check” offer, but don’t.

If you want to avoid saying a cold “no”...I typically say something like “man, I’d love to but I crave action. I’d stack my own grandma if I could.”

Agree with both comments above. Never give a free card or alter normal game play.
The ONLY reason a player is requesting that is to gain an edge on you and take your money. Most would never offer you the same deal even if you asked the very next hand.

As played there is nothing the turn gets him that beats you besides 88 and no you can never fold the river once you call. For 240 I go broke here. I just go all in figuring his fold % is very very small.

If he has 66 that’s a cooler. (If he has 88 its the universe telling you never to give a free card, LOL)

He’s not asking to check it down with AA or KK so MAYBE you chop AK, but otherwise you’re good.

I normally don't do that but it felt like he was going to fold otherwise and I didn't want my AKs to hit the muck ; I agree about not shoving turn I am WA/WB here for sure; I just don't know if I can put 86s, K8s, K6s in his range ; I think A6s and A8s could be in there for sure but that's not that many combos

You can never fold. I probably just call and call river or shove myself. Don't let him fold now.

BTW, did you give him a free flop or turn? You wrote turn, but then checked flop? No biggie, just confusing. I never do that, but I get it -- sometimes it's good for the game.

It was 15 pre-flop; I checked back the flop which let him see the turn for free;

He wanted to just put 15 in and go straight to showdown; so I made a compromise to keep him in the hand

Re: Tough spot with Top Two? 1/2 NL

Just me, but I come to play poker.
Granted my room is more action than most, but if someone made that request I’d probably rib them a little and say let’s play.
As bad as you would feel if your AK hit the muck, (still winning money I might add) how much worse will you feel if he felts you on the free card you give him on the turn.

It’s poker, your money in the table is in play. Anyone else who isn’t there to gamble should get up and leave because they definitely slow the game down and make it harder to build and win big pots.

The 5 bet on the turn and your talking about narrowing a range makes it sound like he had a set, but for $240 I just can’t fold here... MAYBE for $1000 and that’s only a maybe...
