Hero is 30s white guy known as a solid usually mixing my style between TAG and LAG sitting with about 600 chips.

Villain is an unknown and has roughly 230ish in chips.

Villain opens for 10 in middle position and I 3 bet to 30 in late position with QQ. Villain calls. and at this point I sense that I am not up against an overpair.

Flop comes: J27 rainbow.
Villain checks to me. I cbet 40, he min raises to 80. I call.
Turn comes: 5 of hearts. He goes all in for 120ish and I call.

I would like to get some thoughts I how I played the hand. I sensed that I wasn't up against AA or KK and I a pretty good flop for my hand. Do you guys think this is always a set or are there some AJ combos and 1010 combos to make this play profitable? With his stack size I was on the fence. If he had more I probably lay it down.

Oh and also I am new to this forum and this is my first post.

Hand is played fine, though you're up against a set a lot. The thing I look to is the ratio of stack size to pot size heading to the flop (people call this SPR or stackot ratio). Here, there is $60 in the pot heading to the flop and only $200 behind. SPR is less than 3.5:1, which makes it the right idea to stack of with an overpair here basically all of the time.

Meh.

People normally play really straight forward in a 3bet pot.
You're probably often beat.
But since we're basically betting $160 to win ~$400, he doesn't need to be valuing worse here often for this to be a profitable call.

Yeah it is a pretty meh spot. He didn't seem like the type of player that would open raise with 77 or 22 and definitely not J7. I figured there were only a few combinations of JJ that beat me and a small chance of a higher pocket pair.

Does anyone see any value calling preflop instead of 3 betting vs a relatively unkown and seemingly tight player?

No this is a standard 3-bet and just generally a standard hand. I would actually play it exactly as you did (including pre-flop and flop bet sizing).

Based on my experience playing thousands of hands online lately, you are up against JJ here in this spot. Has happened to me at least once a day for the past 2 weeks.

Yeah I feel he can have JJ a lot in this spot. But how the hand played out I feel that the only set he could have here is jacks. He could easily play the same way with AJ wanting to get it all in with tptk and there are a lot more combinations of this hand.

Yeah, this line pretty much strongly suggests exactly JJ, with a small chance of QQ+

However, V is unknown. He might be overvaluing AJ or a PP. He could have QQ. He could be running some weird bluff.

It's a pretty standard sigh/stack off because of the uncertainty. We rest comfortable in the knowledge that we got him to put in 1/8 of his stack pre in a setmining situation, meaning he couldn't get to positive EV for the hand.
