6 handed 1-2 w/ mandatory 4$ straddle

I have only been at the table for roughly an hour or so. Its 3 am and stacks are relatively deep. Table is overall very fishy and passive. Only hand I have seen with this villain was when he x/r the turn after hitting his open ended straight and bet big on the river and scooped. Seems he wants to gamble and get splashy. Playing a lot of hands and is really pushing for bomb pots and straddles. Besides that one hand I haven't seen him really go to showdown.

OTH

v1(main villain) straddles 4$ (600$ effective)

folds to hero on BTN

Hero(BTN)- raises to 20$ J10

sb folds

v2(BB)- calls 20$

v1(straddle)- calls 20$

Pot= 61$

Flop- J96

checks to hero

Hero- bets 35$

v2(BB)- folds

v1(straddle)- calls 35$

Pot= 131$

Turn- 3

v1(straddle)- checks

Hero- Which part of our range are we checking here? I wasn't sure if I should continue on the turn with a bet? Obv his range is super wide being in the straddle. I think J10 is strong enough to bet here for value. Is checking the turn here ever the wrong play?

as played

Hero- bets 75$

v1- calls 75$

River - 2

v1- donk snaps 175$ on the river

Hero- ????????

HH only suggests he wants to gamble pre and make strong hands, then fire. As for you hand, it’s close but I’m not calling 175 after he ckc 75 turn (one your worst turn bets) and absolutely nothing happened runout-wise. Just looks like a huge value line from him, somehow.

I'm not in love with the river, but I think I make a reluctant call here. V seems like a fish who plays straight forward, so any 2pair+ hands I'd expect him to at least X/R turn. Id say the river consists of missed draws, and random hands like J2

I cant imagine him doing this with any Jx hand, except for a garbage hand like J2s or J3s, while all draws missed, QT, T8, 87. If you ask me, V is betting because its the only way he can win.

I'd check the turn with TP. We're beating second pair and over cards. It seems much more likely he'd bet those on the river than call them on the turn.

Weird line. You inflated the pot with a weaker hand so as played Id possibly fold but if I checked the turn I would have called his river donk on the same board so maybe this is a call overall.

I like a turn check/call river here generally but as played I think this is a call. If villain had a set, wp.

Interesting.
Why do folks want to check the turn?
We hate like half the deck on the river.
I originally thought it better to bet to deny equity and I liked $75.
Can smarter people please inform me.

If he wasn't in the straddle I would check most turns however his range is so wide here that I feel checking turn is missing value and protection

If hero is betting JT on this flop, what is he checking?

River sucks. I don't mind the rest of the hand. I can go either way on the turn, but turn should be a bet/fold and river is a fold vs. this guy.

If you soul-read and get the feeling you are good, go for it, but his straddle hands are so wide here I can't imagine you are good.

Fair enough that we have to protect our checking range, but does the straddle make you want to deviate a little from the optimal line? Thanks!

no, the straddle just basically makes the game a $2/$5 instead of a $1/$2.

I check flop or turn. Probably turn.

Now I wanna fold. This looks like one of these instances where I want to fold, but then inexplicably tell myself he has a missed draw. And then I call and lose and hope I won't make the same mistake again... Rinse, repeat.
