At least poker isn't dead.

Based on this one hand alone (including not knowing the difference between betting and raising, the omitting of suits and positions and your general train of thought) the only good advice I can come up with is stop playing immediately; it will save you a lot of money. That is, if you wanna take this game seriously at all. If you just wanna have some fun and gamble a bit, then by all means do that. Nothing wrong with that of course. You'll have fun playing and the whole table will undoubtedly be happy every time you sit down.

If you wanna take poker seriously though, I'd start by studying some beginners' material and playing some micro stakes online or some friendly homegame for pennies. Reading this forum can also help you a lot, but I'd say a minimal grasp of poker fundamentals would be required first. And I'm guessing you still have a long way to go in that area...

Lets start with this:

With no flushes or straights on the board...do not fold a set under any circumstance.

(We can nitpick about a spot where we are 300-500BBs deep...but I think we all know what I mean)

Ok...I saw this thread right after you posted it this morning, was typing a response but had to run out the door. Let's break this down...

PF:

I have no issues with your pf play. Calling an UTG raise with 99 on the button in a multiway-pot is standard.

Flop:

Ok your bet on the flop is fine, it could be a little more, you probably have the best hand by a long shot and you want to start building a pot.

Turn:

You bet $20 into what's almost a $100 pot. I don't get this at all, you need to bet more. Your bet is going to seem super weak to your opponent, so he decides to c-raise you. Basically what happened on this street is that your opponent thought you were weak and wanted to take you off the hand. AP, I would reraise here to an amount that I could comfortably push all-in on the river. However you just called.

River: I'm going all-in after he bets. Folding here is awful.

There's no reason to be so rude to OP, he lost money and posted the hand to learn why. I've seen a number of "regs" and "tags" play like absolute morons and I'm sure many posters on this forum are not exempt.

its tough love
lets face it you need a thick skin to sit at the table with a handful of asshats day in and day out.
poster seems to get this much and if taking some constructive criticism helps him; Great.

I can’t tell from your post if villain was the preflop raiser or what position he was in. If he was the preflop raiser or checked after the preflop raiser checked, I feel very good about shoving river. Regardless of position, never folding river, you beat most of the hands he has for value.

Don't slow play and try to trap with big value hands. If you had quads and you're checking to a maniac, that's different. Go for max value. We don't always flop good hands so when we do, we need to capitalize on them.

Ill say this...the tiny turn bet wasnt the worst thing OP did. If it got villain to check raise with garbage its fine....but there's just no way in hell he can fold after that.
