2-5 NL

V ($900ish): Mid 20s WG. I've never played with him before tonight, and I've only been sitting at this table for about 45 minutes. Seems competent, I haven't seen him get out of line. Really don't have many reads, he hasn't really been involved in many hands. I saw him raise from button earlier, got a caller, and C-Bet on a K high board and took down the pot. Pretty much all I have.

H ($1100): Mid 20s WG. Haven't been at the table long, and I haven't been involved in any significant hands. I have 3! once from the CO after a limp then raise from MP, all folds. Haven't been to show down and haven't shown a hand yet.

OTTH:

V raised to 20 UTG. Folds to hero on button with KJ, I flat. No other callers.

Flop ($40): 37K

Check, check.

Turn ($40): 9

V Checks, hero bets $40, V tanks for like a minute and calls.

River ($120): Q

V leads for $200.

Hero???

Not sure I agree with folding pre, but definitely hate not betting flop, and never calling river without reads.

Fold river. If he has a tight opening range UTG, what can you beat? He's not going to play AQ this way. You block JJ, which he's also not playing this way. This looks a lot like QQ, or maybe a slow played KK.

I can go either way on your flop check. If you're ahead, you're not getting three streets of value; and if you're behind, you're not getting better to fold. So I don't hate a check. I'd be interested in hearing why others like a flop bet.

Looking back, I agree that not betting the flop may have been mistake. I was a little confused with his check, as it seems like a decent flop for him to C-Bet with. If I bet, I'm assuming he comes along with most of his pocket pairs, as well as a king. I just don't know what K he could have after checking.
I was confused on what to range him at.

Preflop I put him at 77+, QJ+. I think that range holds up after he checks flop, but I believe I can remove most Kings from his range as I can't see why he'd check that flop.

Do you think range is accurate? With this range, I almost certainly should have bet flop as I'm probably ahead. With little history and no real reads other than he seems solid, should I range him bigger, even if it's coming from UTG?

His check on the turn seemed very weak, and I thought I was definitely ahead. When he tank called I don't think his range necessarily changed, but there is possible straight/straight draw. 10-10 and J-J probably think they're good, a he probably thought I'd bet a K if I had it. Obviously 99 got there too, and possibly he thought I'd take a stab. I just don't see how he doesn't c/r with 99 to charge for the flush and straight draws out there.

The river over bet confused me too. QQ obv gets there, as well as 10-J if he's calling turn with double gutter. A-Q hits and might think he's good. 1010/JJ might be semi-bluff as they still hold some SDV. It seemed like a pretty passive line if he had 33 or 77 with flush draw and possible straight draw.

Hands he might have that have me beat: 33/77 (unlikely played this way IMO, but possible), 10-Jdd, KQ (unlikely), 99, QQ

What range do you put V on here with this bet?

Fold pre. Check flop is standard. Fold river AP. It's 99 or QQ always.
