What is the "normal average" rake every 30 mins or hour where you play?
The poker place i play to is time charge as opposed to rake.

Well if you assume 30 hands an hour 8 handed you are winning 3-4 pots an hour and paying about $4-5 in rake per pot won so the $16 an hour figure seems reasonable.

Although because I don’t have a 50% VPIP like the average 1/3 player I’m probably winning fewer pots per hour than the average player. If you love to play any two cards a time rake might be better for you.

My table is currently raked a maximum $7 + $1 BBJ + typically $1 tip. If you assume 30 hands an hour at an average rake of $5, that'll be 30 x $7 = $210 coming off the table every hour. Round that down to $200, divide that by 10 players, and everyone's fair share is about $20 an hour in rake.

However, as said above, if you are a tight player you aren't getting caught up in the rake trap nearly as much.

Overall, my guess is that it's probably fairly close either way when compared to my raked game, although I think I would prefer mine as it allows more flexibility (I can help avoid rake trap by playing tighter and perhaps not tipping on most small pots).

ETA: Does your game have a BBJ drop and tipping? If so, the table rake for 30 hands in an hour at a 10 handed table would be around ($16 x 10) + $30 + $30 = $220, so again, very similar amount coming off the table overall, although a tight player is probably "unfairly" paying their fair share at your table, I think.

ETA#2: Also, your table is dinging you for hands that you miss taking a washroom / smoke / walking / etc. break, unlike a normally raked table (where rake kinda doesn't penalize your for hands you are not in, other than raping your opponents stacks for those times you get it all-in versus them later)

The place where I used to play 5/10 most frequently charged $7 per half hour. For 5/10.

Paying $8 per half hour for 1/3 is ridiculous.

I think it's a bit unfair to compare to high steaks simply because most higher steaks games you already outrun the rake trap relatively easily.

Unless I'm missing something, ~about the same amount of money is coming off the table at his 1/3 NL game using this method vs the normal rake method (although a tight player would prefer the normal method).

The thing spewtard didn’t mention is in his game no money actually comes off the table for time charge or tips. Have to pay cash outside of the chips on the table. This is much better for a good players hourly.

This is a good point too. One of the most devastating parts of rake, even for a tight player who is rarely playing hands, it that our much looser opponents stack is often devastated by rake when we eventually get him all-in. If that rake isn't coming from his stack on the table, that's a big plus in this regards.
