Pretty sure I wouldn't consider this a "spot" to get in with a lag. You can't beat top pair and he could be all over this board with 2 pairs, sets, etc...Unless you have some hero read that he just has a pair and a draw now, I'd fold and find a much better spot to get his stack.

Check turn and control the pot size some. As played this is a terrible spot and a good bet by him. You basically have to choose to commit your entire stack on the turn. Fold. Top up. Wait for a better spot.

What? C'mon, Mr_doomed and PlugNGun, I would call here with a pair of 5s, ffs.

This is fist-pump, high-five the dealer, kiss the waitress, take a lap and high-five the whole table except V, sit back down and tilt the table 45 degrees with your massive boner, shove AI so fast your chips leave streaks on the table type of action here.

Seriously,

SHIPPIT!!!

Portray as much weakness as you can and make a hesitant almost fold call

Come turn, if he value bets, lean more towards folding. If he blasts the pot all-in and it is clear he is just trying to fold you out then call.

Also, a "Tilted LAG" in this spot can have a wide range including under pairs to the Jack. Occasionally he will have 54 or Jx but he will also have more than enough air balls and underpairs that put us on AK for us to be fine stacking off to him even though we have an underpair to the J.

Lastly, I would probably bet a bit weaker on the turn so I can keep in more of his air balls and weaker hands and induce him to bluff more. When you bet 2/3 pot on turn that will tend to remove more air out of his range which is NOT what I want to do against a "tilted LAG". Against a tilted LAG I want him in the hand with as much of his range as possible so he will make a move on me on turn. MOre of his range that is in on the turn, the more profitable it becomes to call this raise and play for stacks on river.

If Villain can be aggro/bluffy, I would consider getting position on him (or at least not being immediately OOP to him), especially as stacks start getting much over 100bbs. Pot control is vital in hands against this villain, and pot control is hard to do OOP.

Preflop is either/or for me. If I'm likely to narrow the field to 3way with a raise (especially resulting in me with position), I'm cool with raising. Otherwise, I'm totally cool with limping. I kinda hate the fact we're OOP here, as postflop will typically be hard to play with this hand.

Postflop really depends on villain. Is he likely to bluff if we show weakness? Does he ever bluff/raise (a very rare trait among most villains)? Etc. I'm ok with the flop bet as our hand could be best but it is very vulnerable. I would probably slow down on the turn and see what happens. As played, we got raised on the turn and we have 2nd pair; I'm done with it.

unless you have a very good read on him.....id say fold or ship it only two options.....if you shuv there he may fold a lot of weak top pairs but its too difficult to say....

why would you ever want to shove on a player who is likely bluffing?

This is a horrible spot to shove.

This type of villain is not folding top pair. Shoving is the nut worst option. Folds out his bluffs and only calls with better.

Im a bit of a hero so id call his raise and soul read/play the river cautiously.

Or... id fold.

Going to be honest, I don't think you know what a LAG or TAG really is. Again, this is a HH where you describe someone who doesn't play like the description in the hand.

Generally, when a LAG is calling pf, on the flop and then raises on the turn, they have it. Bad LAGs think of themselves as tricky players, which means the slow play big hands and push weak hands. But with you, who knows?

To protect your hand and possibly make him fold a weak jack

I ranged him down to 87. I shoved for the other $115, V rolls over 99. BAFFLED at shove as I am by his call. Pre, it felt like he was planning on making a move. when he snap called my flop, I knew he was afraid of the jack, but maybe he was on a draw. When he popped it, I could tell he was trying to protect a small pair, 3b just seemed right and like I would get paid off.

If you really think about it objectively, you didn't play the hand well. As said from a prior post, this guy is all over the place with his range and could have easily had a weird two pair. The main mistake I feel that you made is not having a plan on the turn. Why did you bet $50? Did you just turn your hand into a bluff and say "F it", I'm shipping now that he raised me because you were hoping he would show up with nothing? Also, if you really thought you had the best hand after the flop and suspected that he may try to buy it in position, betting $50 on the turn looks really strong and would scare a player, even of his image, out of the pot sometimes. I like a check/call on turn and river (or quite possibly a check down on one or both of those streets) if you think you're good. But by betting $50 on turn, the majority of the time you are going to scare him out (and not let him bluff into you) or will be behind when he raises. Glad that it worked out for you, but that was VERY fortunate for you.

I knew I was getting a call with the $50. I like your play better, I would have still gotten all his money in the end and it would have been a better play. Thank you.
