Thoughts?

How would you play the following hand: I'm new to poker and play super low stakes. 2cent 5 cent games

Hero in small blind has 9hjs
UTG: raises to 10 cents
Folds to me and I call
Flop comes:
QC 3d 8C

Hero checks:
UTG/Villian: Bets 5cents. I thought this was really weak. SO I raised to 15 cents
UTG/Villian: Raises to 35 cents, I call
Villian has 1.25 left

Turn comes 2s
We both check

River Comes: Qd

Now what would you guys do in this situation?

I lead out for 46 cents about half pot
He folds. Would you guys do differently? Like I'm glad I won the pot but I dont know if I got lucky.

Re: Thoughts?

Fold pre-flop. It sounds like you guys are playing relatively short stacked, and this is not a great starting hand. You can call from the BB with stuff like this, but not the SB.

If you are going to semi-bluff this flop, raise to something much bigger, like .30. When he re-pops, just fold.

This sounds like a pretty soft game. I'd stick to a more ABC strategy.

Re: Thoughts?

Quick answer is to just fold pf.

My first question is whether these stakes are meaningful to you and the villains you are playing? The importance of the question is that if the stakes are just goofing around money and losing $20 or more is just a night's entertainment, you're going to play differently than if the stakes have meaning.

Assuming they are essentially meaningless, then you're going to want to play a lot of hands and wait until you hit a big hand. When you do, you're going to aim to get your stack in.

Re: Thoughts?

Assuming the money or bragging rights mean anything, so that bets aren't just random button clicking, fold to the flop raise.

As played, repping the Q after V checks back turn is fine.

Re: Thoughts?

Hmm I never though of it this way. I just wanted to get a feel for the game before I played higher stakes, so I have a general idea on what to do in certain situations. Do you think I should be playing higher stakes to get a better at the game?

Re: Thoughts?

Kid - you want to play at the right stakes for you. If you’re playing for too little $$ it’s hard to stay focused and disciplined and you’ll develop bad habits. If you’re playing for too much money you’ll play scared and develop bad habits. If the goal is to develop poker skill I believe it easiest done at a stake where you don’t want to lose the money, but aren’t afraid to, if that makes sense.

Re: Thoughts?

It's not just you, though. Unless your Vs are really trying, you'll get some weird ideas playing live microstates. Most players at those stakes are just fooling around.

If your friends are very competitive, though, playing for tiny stakes or even play money can be a fine learning experience. Even one person playing randomly because "lol, it's just $5. I'm all in!" will really give you odd ideas about poker, though.
