Tell me about your bluff today

Hey all I was thinking maybe it would be fun to have a thread where we posted a bluff that we made from the day's session.

Kind of like the chip stack thread, it's not meant to be super high content but more like a lounge and spot to shoot the breeze about bluffs; brag when it worked, or complain when they made a terrible call and won all your chips.

I'll start things off: I'm not sure why but I decided to check raise a turn that read K89 7 after check calling the flop. This time it worked he said I must have 77 or 99 but I had AJ!

So LLSNL, tell me about your bluff today

Re: Tell me about your bluff today

I find my bluffs come few and far between, and I just have to patiently wait for the right spot. In my 11.5 hr session on the weekend, I think I did like 2 bluffs on big streets.

Anyhoo, I overlimp A5ss on the Button, 5way to Qh8h3s checks thru. Ks turn, BB bets $15 into $15, folds to me. He's straightforward ABC and sees me the same way. I figure I have upwards of 18 outs (half my flush draw, half a flush draw I can rep) and call. 2h river. He bets a weak $20 into $45, I bluff raise to $60, and it gets thru. I was a little worried about this one because my check back on the flop might not make a lotta sense if I did have the heart draw, but it worked as he's obviously giving more weight to big street action.

Later I ran KK into his AA for 66bb preflop and gave it (and more) all back, so it's almost like it didn't matter.

Re: Tell me about your bluff today

Table was really loose/passive. I opened to $12 with 57 in the CO after two limpers, got 5 callers.

Flop was ($60)
KJ4

Checks around, turn is
KJ48

Checks to me I bet $35, 1 caller.

River ($130):
KJ482

Checks to me I bet $45 V folds.

I like our flop play. (ETA: I was assuming 1/3 NL where a $12 raise has zero chance at narrowing the field preflop)

Think every other street blows up in our face the majority of the time.

$1/2 but yeah expected to go multi-way. Yeah well it didn't blow up in my face so the results say I am awesome.

I don't know, it felt alright. Everyone seemed fairly disinterested. I had the initiative in the hand already even though I checked flop, (which I had also done with value hands in this session) and it had checked around to me twice. I picked up a gutter on the turn and the call to me indicated a draw, a weak pair or a combo, none of which improved on the river.

My sizing on the riv was definitely small and going to get looked up a lot, but does a nice job of balancing thin value bets and inducing bets on future rivers. I also expect him to just give up all his missed draws with that size.

^^^^

Imo, once you check back the flop (which I'm fine with) no K or J (heck, maybe even an 8 or something like 99) is ever going to fold. Somehow 4 opponents didn't have one, nor did the one lone guy with the busted draw (who was somehow the only guy who had a draw, and who also managed to whiff hitting a pair).

Turn seems fine, V may be giving up and you have a ton of outs. I'm checking back on the river, 3c changes nothing and V can't really have many missed draws.

Key for me here is that we're unknown to each other. We need some sorta image / history / etc. before bluffs are going to be successful. Plus we have no clue whether this guy is simply checking TPTK (or more) here on the turn in attempt to pot control / etc.

I woulda simply checked back on the turn and attempted to bink. ETA: Missed that we picked up a flush draw on the turn, I don't hate a small bet as obviously that will be EV in itself with even just a smidge of FE. Even so, I think I'd still prefer a check against unknowns.

2/5 game. Folds to me on the button and I make it 15 with A2s. SB folds and BB makes it 40. 400 effective and I make it 95. V folds quickly claiming pocket tens.

This. A little surprised he called down with TT, but still not a great river bet.

Wow. My 1/3 NL game actually has a $700 maximum bet rule, which I've only seen come into play I believe once (maybe twice) in ~3000 hours.

You must have quite the table image!

Re: Tell me about your bluff today

Definitely like the thread idea.

2/5
limp, guy who I thought was solid makes it $30, 3 calls, I call with A9, limper calls.

Pot $180
Flop KT7
checks to PFR who cbets $135, two calls (one short-stack), I rip it in for $900-$1k, PFR calls after about 15 seconds and short stack calls.

Turn 6
River 4

PFR 89 and scoops
Short Stack 54

I guess this technically isn't even a bluff since I had the best hand lol - but I will be overbet jamming my sets from now on especially since there were like 5 regs at the table

I also clearly had much less FE than I expected

I think anyone who reads my hand histories on this forum probably would love to sit with me. I don't exactly have respect for money.

Re: Tell me about your bluff today

Was about a week ago, found my big value bets/shoves recently not being called so thought I should probably be bluffing more. Probably could've picked a better hand to bluff with but my "gut" said he would fold his over pair to a 3 barrel on this board.

1/2 Eff stacks ~$600

EP limp
Hero MP raise to $10 with KdQs
Villain BTN 3b to $25
EP and Hero call

(Pot $75) Flop:
9 5 3

Checks to Villain, bets $35
EP folds
Hero raises to $90
Villain calls

Pot ($255) Turn T

Hero bets $120
Villain calls

Pot (~$500) River 7

Hero bets all-in ~$350
Villain tank folds, says "I can't go broke with one pair"

Re: Tell me about your bluff today

1/3 with $250 effective stacks, 6 players on table. My read on villain (BTN) was that he was a "lookup artist" that loved to float flop Cbets.

Hero is dealt As 9s in CO
SB posts $1
BB posts $3
Folds to hero
Hero raises to $15
Villain (BTN) calls $15
Everyone else folds

$30 in pot
Flop shows 6c 4s 2d

Hero Cbets $25
Villain calls $25

$80 in pot
Turn shows 7d

Hero checks
Villain bets $40
Hero shoves ALL-IN for $210
Villain folds

wow dirty call by villain - love your effort though. i unilaterally rate this bluff 6/10, with potential to be 9/10 had you raised turn and fired river.

nice! 8/10 for getting BB to fold tens. Could have been 10/10 had BB folded KK.

wow i loved this all the way through until i saw what villain looked you up with - what a luckbox. 9/10 for firing all 3 barrels. would have been 10/10 had he called with worse.

ya i can't rate this one as i don't see it as a bluff. tough beat though you were a fist-pump favorite vs those hands.

always tricky to run bluffs on "look-up artists", so congrats on slipping one past the goalie. 8/10 for a nice turn c/r with good fold equity.

Some successful spew

Effective stacks 400. Hero raised 9s8s to $10 from HJ. CO and Btn call.

Flop KT7r, one spade. H bets 20. CO raises to $40. Btn reraises to 80. H shoves 300 more. Both fold. CO claims two pair and btn claims AK

My logic was that CO was pretty nitty, while BTN was pretty spewy. Didn't want to fold, didn't think I could call, so decided to raise, and shoved to maximize FE given that I was committed to the hand with any raise. Didn't think that CO would want to get $400 in the middle with a marginal hand, especially with BTN still to act, and that BTN was making a move (which he does frequently). Think KK or AK are getting 3-bet pre, and BTN would 3-bet TT too. I'm also the only person in the hand who can have KK. Obviously I want folds, but not a disaster if I get called given I have an OESD and BDFD, and if somehow both call I'm getting odds on my draw again. Finally, relatively dry board so I have one of the two possible semibluffs (QJ being the other).

The other point is that I play in a relatively small player pool at an underground game, and while I don't worry much about balance I do like to have some overbet shoves in my arsenal with non-nutted hands from a meta perspective since I like to overbet nutted hands too.

All that said, it was certainly spewy and I was lucky it worked. Posting here in part to get flamed for it.
