Straight forward decision preflop with AK? Straight forward decision preflop with AK?

H just sat down at a 1-2 new table with 9 other players. Third hand H is dealt AKo in the HJ, one limp to H. H raises to 10, Folds to BB who raises to 35. He had bought short for about 80. Folds to me, 3! AI is standard right?

No Reads yet other than: V has folded the previous two hands. He is a white guy in his 30s who looks professional-ish (wearing a vest and one of those hats with a golf logo on it).

Calling is awful and folding seems way too nitty given reads and eff stacks. Is anyone ever not shipping and feeling pretty good about it?

40bb. Ride the wave.

I don't fold it in most tournament spots at 40bb, seems like an easy ship. No reads, just go with it.

40bb stackers are the nut worst boring players though, in cash. This aint online bud, get a real stack. What sucks in live poker, I think people are generally just nittier 3 bettors. So makes it thinner than online, but still not folding. So much money already in there and with some % were ahead, others we're the same hand and often just a flip and rarely crushed.

With no reads/never have played w/ villain before it's a pretty easy 4bet ship pre. There are however, lots of people (who play ~40bb stacks) who I would snap fold AK to their 3bet.

Unless your villain is very nitty or very loose your EV will be small either way. So I don't think it really makes much difference. With a better read on villain this could be an easy shove or trivial fold.

My experience is that more 1/2 short stackers are too tight rather then too loose and after taking rake into account your EV is probably negative some trivial amount. So I would slightly favor fold but shoving is fine also.
