Small Blind TPNK + flush draw vs. terribad Small Blind TPNK + flush draw vs. terribad

1/2 NL: Hero $180ish probably viewed as tight and aggressive in the small blind with J3s.

Villain: $150ish in the BB. Terribad player. Loose pre (but not atc loose), but he has busted out several times calling large river bets with TPNK on very very wet boards. Basically, if has A5 and an A hits the flop he is folding about never.

3 limps and I complete in SB, villain checks. The other limpers are typical loose-passive to weak-tight 1/2 players.

Flop $8: Jx 7s 2s

What is our approach on this hand on the flop. What do we do if the spade hits the turn and what do we do if it doesn't.

Start by betting. People love calling small flop bets then folding turns in limp pots. Fire away.

I usually fold pre. Lead flop for like $6 for value. What to do OTT depends on how many and which of the villains call, and obviously what the turn card is. Pretty much always firing spades and 3s though.

I did lead out for exactly $6 and got called by only villain.

Turn: $19ish 5x (Jx 7s 2s)

Now what? I think I made a mistake here by betting out $12.

The bet seems fine to me. Hard to envision any hand that called the flop being improved by that 5 other than J5 or 75, which you still have outs to.

10 on flop. I like round numbers, makes a bigger pot that I expect to win when called on flop, saves dealers wasting time making change etc....

30 on turn. You still have excellent equity v his range and get the pot massive for the times we improve and put in 0 more dollars on the river unimproved.

Even against a mega fish idk what you can expect to get a good amount of value from on this board.

And fold pre.

I would bet the flop, then try and check it down if I don't improve.

This villain isn't folding and most kickers are better kicker than yours, so I see little reason to bet the turn or river.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure I agree with folding pre in a multi-way limped pot in this case considering how bad this player was. In general, it might be a (small) leak in my game not folding the SB more.

I do agree I should have just gone into check-down mode on the turn and if I binked the spade on the river, then bomb it and hope megafish calls like he had in the past.

As played, the river was an overcard non-spade and I made the stupid move of rationalizing to myself I may have the best hand and bet $20 and he called with J9.

Top off, especially if you can be sitting with 300.

At 1/3 I probably fold pf, at 1/2 I'm in.

Lead flop was good. I lead small for value ott, any fd is coming along, a lot of 7x. Checking almost all non spade rivers.

Re: topping off. This is THR and max buyin is 100.

^ I don't know what THR is, but if you ever can be sitting with more (another room, another game) do it.

Tampa Hard Rock. It has a 1/3 $300 max buyin game, but the players are generally so bad at 1/2, it makes up for the terrible buyin structure. I've been winning so regularly at 1/2, I haven't moved up. I probably should try it one day.

There are other poker rooms in the area, both are farther away and one is in a ghetto and closes at 3am. I usually only play 2-3 times a month, and when I do, I like to play a marathon session, so I still play at THR.
