Should I have called with a set on a monotone board? Should I have called with a set on a monotone board?

This is a $1/3 game.

Several callers, I limp behind with 44 in MP.

Flop: Js-4s-2s. I flop middle set.

TAG bets $25, I reraise to $50, button pushes all-in for $85, Tag tanks for a long time, and pushes all-in for $200. I put TAG on a baby flush. I fold.

Did I have the pot odds to call if I put him a a flush?

Turn: Jd River Td. I would have made a boat. Button had a missed flush draw, TAG had a baby flush 5 high.

Thanks for your feedback!

Yes, for that price I believe you need to call. Figure out the $$ to call vs the pot size. Pretty close to even if he showed you a flush you're still calling.

I see you've now made two posts asking about pot odds.

(Amount you have to call) / [(Amount in the pot) + (Amount you have to call)]

Lets say $15 total pot pre. $335(200+85+50) goes in the middle on the flop, and you have to call $150 more. So 150/(15+335+150). You need 30% equity to call. Although, the math gets a little more complicated here with part of the pot only being played heads up.

I'm not folding. Below are a few different spots and the odds, but vs ranges I think it's a call.

Yea you should call here. As a general rule, don’t fold sets on the flop when you or your opponent start the hand with less than $300 (100 big blinds). Given that your opponents will very rarely have JJ here, you should be calling. Also don’t post the results in your first post as results can bias the feedback you get.

persianpunisher, Thank you for your detailed analysis and results. I do need to work on my math, and you've helped a lot.

Yeah, sets vs straights & flushes are 34%. Flush draws + gutshots are also around 34% vs sets. You need pot odds of 2:1 to call. It's important to know the equities in spots like these, most people don't so it's just one more edge you can have over them.

could raise this hand pre-flop if you're in MP, other than that can't say anything that wasn't already said

Looks fine. Tag should have only flushes for shove. Maybe kk, aa with flush draw is theoretically possible as well but shod b3 discounted hard

If its a decision that's not clear cut i'm gonna lean towards folding against unknown players or people who arent maniacs. I'm still really new to the thinking aspect of this game but it seems like one of them has a flush so often that you're gonna have to pair the board to win. Against just the first player with 80 something I'm snap calling. Two players is twice the odds i'm beat.
