1/2 No limit

Hero has a stack of $350. Villian(reg 2/5 player) has about $400.

Hero is under the gun and limps in with 44. Villian (to the immediate left) limps. Folds around to the CO who raises to $11. Button, small, and big all fold. Hero calls and V calls. $35 in the pot

Flop
4c9c6s

Hero leads for $25. Villian thinks for 10sec and calls. CO folds.

Turn
7h

Hero checks. Villian bets $50. Hero raises to $100. Villian snaps all in.

Villian made a bad call with QQ to a AA5 board and sucked out on the river about ten hands earlier. I was thinking he was trying to push a over pair or big flush draw.

Hero?

You aren't yet equipped to play this hand utg given what I've read above, so you have to fold pre next time.

The only thing you did in this hand that is acceptably good is leading flop. The turn ck-r itself is suspect, but the sizing is impossibly bad. Once he jams, the likelihood that you have 10-1 outs skyrockets, but it is still a very tough fold to make given your line/this guy/this board/pot size.

Main takeawy for you is you need to make far better use of your set equity by choosing a different line+sizing. Fold 22-55 utg for now (and conceivably forever-you won't get hurt).

Welcome to the forum, OP. Next time, please don't give away results in your post, even by implication.

Bet flop bigger next time and lead flop big too. AP, c/r bigger.

Why are we checking turn after leading flop? You check raise because you're trying to build a pot and then get confused when he shoves. I think you need to think about your lines and what your future action will be. Like lead turn and call if he raises or lead turn and shove if he raises etc before putting money in the pot. Reg 2/5 doesn't mean much. Plenty of fishy regs. Would need more info but I can't see how we can fold now as played. You've put in 136 and need to call 215 to win 711.

I don't love the turn play, but as played, it's a call.

I'll take the other side here: I don't think the turn check is awful against an aggressive player. On that type of board it's basically screaming "I have a 9" or "I have clubs or a club combo draw." I don't like doing it as a min-raise, though. That's an ugly turn card and there are going to be a lot of scary cards on the river. I'd rather try to get stacks in and if I get coolered by a bigger set or T8cc, T8o or 58cc (which I have outs against at least), so be it.

You limped pre, so you could have any part of that flop & bet it & he calls.
He is either not ready to give up, or also hit the flop.
Then you check the turn, disguising the strength of your hand, so your V bets.
Now you c/r OTT when more str8s are possible. This is a sign of strength - usually a lot of strength, yet your V snap shoves.

Your V doesn't give a shytt that there are many ways to have a str8 here. Now you have to decide if he really shoves with hands like an overpair, or top 2 pair, etc. But if he has TT/JJ, does he really limp pre? He'd have to be bad, IMO.
