Tough spot like this can be avoided with a 3b OOP...you might be able to take it down with small pocket pairs, but if not it thins the field and narrows opponents range. I think you have to call but I don't think you are way ahead in this spot, especially with 2 or 3 other callers.

You're right. It does narrow villains' ranges. The only problem is that it narrows them to the point that you will only get called by hands that beat you. What are you then going to do on the flop when there isn't a 5 and you've now created a bloated pot OOP and you have 2-3 other players to act after you? Small pairs play better in high SPR pots.....not in small SPR pots

Re: set in 4 way pot

PF call is standard IMO. OTF, don't love any of our options really. Middle set is way too strong to fold, but with these stacks sizes I don't want to jam my whole stack in either. Not sure of specific stack sizes of Vs other than "400 +", but with the size of the pot already I assume any raise would pretty much commit us to getting stacks in.

For me that leaves a call, but that's not very appealing either since we're not closing the action and there are so many terrible turn cards for us. I feel like calling and seeing a turn is the least bad of the options, but I'm actually miffed about what the "correct" play is here and am curious to see other replies.

Re: set in 4 way pot

Raise fairly large. You have a hand that is likely the best hand, your hand is not super likely to improve, you can get called by worse, your hand isnt so nutted that getting them to fold their equity is bad, and there is a 50/50 chance the turn card is going to make your life miserable.

I'm not at all confident that the above is correct but it's what I would do.

Are you basing your read that UTG1 is competent on prior sessions? Does he always 3x it pre? Does he ever open limp? Trying to get an idea of if his range contains 78s and 66 and how wide it is.

Re: set in 4 way pot

Prefer to lead flop, but as played I think we can go ahead and get it in here. You can definitely get called by worse, and obviously have outs to a straight. It's not like we want to call and then check down some streets to get to showdown.

Also, I do not care for the idea of 3b preflop unless we areally convinced we can take it down pre. Bloating this pot oop multi way sounds like a bad idea almost all the time.
