That would be great. Unfortunately, Texas card rooms are incentivized to go to 10 handed since no rake is taken.

I don't think you are better off getting it now. It may give you short term immunity but probably not long term immunity (perhaps due to the strain mutating?) Also, I don't think it will be so easy to get back to business as usual because you could still be positive with the virus for quite some time. A few days ago I listened to an interview of a man from the Princess Cruise Ship. He was on day 38 of isolation and was still testing positive (no symptoms though).

Best wishes to your family.

Felt good yesterday, cancelled a trip in middle of week because of a small cough. Went shopping at the local grocery store and there was an ok amount of tp first thing in the morning. My neighbors were shocked to see me with that sweet sweet tp. Supposedly places were sold out this week. I was surprised that there was actually a fair amount of beans and other preserved foods on the shelves still. More stockers than usual were running around and lots of boxes in the aisle, don't know if that's normal for noon on Saturday at this store. When I stocked shelves it def wasn't, aisles were clean by 7. Could mean they got cleaned out on Friday and had to put a lot up overnight when the trucks came in.

Today cough picked up again but it's mild and no fever. Only going to call a doctor if I pick up a fever and cough actually gets bad. My rule of thumb is if I don't have trouble sleeping and wake up coughing I'm not that sick. Drank a Gatorade and getting some Pedialyte. Gonna self-quarantine for a week. Planning on vid chatting friends for sanity.
I have some sort of sickness with a very minor cough, probably from playing poker 5 days ago. I automatically think covid-19 but even with under-reported cases the likelihood that it is, is super low. I'm keeping distance from everyone just in case but the cough is so mild that it doesn't even warrant a cough drop at this point.

Exactly. Odds it's Corona are tiny, but the responsible think to do right now is keep distance and take it seriously.

Re the testing, I understand their POV (and it’s probably correct) but the point is that if they’re not testing people then they don’t know who has it and if they don’t know who has it then it’s impossible to know if the ‘flu’ we catch is off a person who has Covid or not.
Their POV on testing is absolutely not correct.

And treatment for serious cases is nowhere near the same as the flu.

hope your daughter just has a regular cold feels

for what it's worth, children seem to be far far the least effected, in China this was the primary concern as newborns were testing positive but they handled it with ease compared to the general population

you definitely want to take basic precautions though if possible, as spyu mentioned, there are reports of reinfection weeks apart and with tests demonstrating they got cured in at least China and Japan. it could be false negatives combined with a dormancy period but we also have zero evidence that you attain immunity after getting this - that's simply assuming it'll act like most diseases - it also appears we were wrong about the warm weath as well - point is we can't be making any hard assumptions because we know nothing about it

but i'd also try to avoid contracting it if possible, even for the cases designated as "mild" they are often bedridden for weeks and there are some reports it can leave your lungs permanently damaged with stuff like pulmonary fibrosis because it literally lives within and attacks your lungs

stay safe and use good precautions, disinfect everything you touch and wear masks and gloves

i genuinely hope i'm being a chicken little, but even if i'm wrong you gotta view this like pascal's wager - worst case scenario if you overreact is you needlessly wore gloves and masks when you didn't need to

Still there are a few things that can go wrong, hopefully they dont materialize.
understood, just please wear gloves when you play, even if they don't help, they'll still prevent you from instinctively touching your face

those cards are the thing that worry me

I’m working from home this week at least and my wife is negotiating that with her employer today as well

Family member went shopping wearing gloves. I asked if he disinfected everything he touched with the gloves.

i understand that you're joking but the main thing about the gloves is that it prevents you from instinctually rubbing your eyes and touching your face etc etc

for what it's worth in china with gloves on we're still using toothpicks stuck in a pinboard to hit elevator buttons and then disposing of the toothpicks

if we need to touch a doorknob or something we'll spray it with disinfectant first

there is no grocery shopping here anymore - it's all delivery - and yes that stuff all gets sprayed down and washed before it enters the house

I booked a trip to South Beach last week for May. It's fully refundable and the rates were just too good to pass up.

Anyone want to set odds this trip actually happens as scheduled?

I'd say fair odds at 10:1 of it actually happening

but given the general sentiment I imagine I could find it at plus odds the other way

Hmmm. I think the odds are shorter than 10-1 but still a significant dog to happen

If by the end of May things are still under lockdown, to the point that you couldn't go sit on the beach, I would expect civil unrest.

I put the chance that you can go at 80%+.

FWIW, Seattle appears as ground zero of covid19 because it is the most tested area in the country.

Seattle (WA state) has tested more than 10,000 cases.

According to the update from CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...ing-in-us.html

There has only been 18,644 cases tested in the country.

According to Florida's own health officials: http://www.floridahealth.gov/disease...-19/index.html

Florida has tested less than 900 potential infected and has 136 cases.

Italy not the place to be.

It's interesting though seeing the outcome differences between a place like Italy and a place like Singapore. Singapore was top 5 in terms of reported cases early on. Italy will prove to be a cautionary tale of what can happen if you have a population ruled by the it's just a flu bros.

Italy was very much like the US in the beginning. While a minority of people were jumping up and down yelling that the hurricane is about to hit, 2wks ago people were just out and about without a care in the world because it's just the flu.

I'm happy to see the sentiment has changed quite a bit in the U.S. now and am hopeful that we get things under control and have a positive outcome.

It's not Italy's 1st rodeo. They've failed to corral their own bull since Garibaldi's Red Shirts did it once in the 1860s.

Asian countries benefited from having experienced SARS, MERS, swine flu etc. Once you lose people to pandemics, you learn first hand that you need to be ready to deal with pandemics.

But swine flu was Mexico to US. What's our excuse?

thanks for continued wishes guys. Daughter seems to be recovering - still feels shitty with a cough and temperature but was well enough to be a ***** to her sister last night.

I've been fighting off some kind of infection the past few days. have about 10 mouth ulcers, a light temp, scratchy throat and muscle soreness but no other symptoms. wife also coming down with something.

all in all, could well just be a flu my daughter has and we'll probably never know because the local hospital isn't testing unless you have come into contact with a known sufferer and given they're not testing people...nobody knows if they've come into contact with a known sufferer! catch 22 right there
