River mess up, does my hand count as a fold? River mess up, does my hand count as a fold?

On the river, I was first to act and bet $30, novice recreational opponent put in some chips and I thought he called, so I flipped my cards over showing the nut flush.

Dealer then tells me "I think he raised" and I realize he put in $50-55 (instead of $60) which qualifies as a raise since it's more than half the bet amount.

Does my hand count as a fold because I flipped it over without calling the raise?

Some rooms will consider that a dead hand. If you tossed them forward and your cards touched other cards, your hand is probably dead. Get your room's specific rule.

Depends on room but it shouldn't be dead. You should have the option to fold, call, or raise.

You should likely take this to brick and mortar.

Having said that, in most but not all rooms:
If you flipped your cards face up, and put them down in front of you, you are simply showing your hand, any range of action that you had before you did that, you still have. So, in this case you would still be allowed to call, raise, or fold.

If you turned your cards over, and threw them towards the dealer in a forward motion, many rooms will rule this hand to be mucked. And the dealer will scoop up the cards and muck them. The key here is throwing them forward toward the muck.

But also, even if you did that, and but the dealer didn't muck your cards yet, most places will allow you to retrieve them as long as they have not hit the muck. So, you can just pick them back up and keep playing the hand.

Okay I'll explain in more detail:

The ultra-novice V (as unknowing about the rules as me) probably put in some extra chips because he wanted to raise BUT after I flipped my hand, he took the extra chips back because the dealer asked him if it's a raise, and then he put the correct extra amount. The key here is, the dealer and everyone else including me, didn't see the initial extra amount he had put. I think it was probably more than half the bet so it counts as a raise but nobody was 100% sure.

Now when he put in the correct extra amount, even before the dealer passed any ruling, I got all hyper and afraid that my hand might be considered a FOLD (because I was unaware of the correct rule) and started telling the dealer "He didn't put in a raise before, how's that a raise?" blah blah..

The dealer got confused and asked both of us what we wanted to do.. I heard her whispering something before like "Yes, I would consider that a FOLD".. So I instantly asked V to take the raise back and let's consider it a call (and told him "I saved you some chips"). V thanked me for it and I took down the pot.

Now, I realise, I had the option to call because I hadn't really MUCKED. LOL.

In my casino if you accidentally expose your cards your hand is not dead but you are not allowed any aggressive action so would not be allowed to raise just call or fold.

If you was to do this continually then they would start giving warnings and eventually your hand would be considered dead.

I would check house rules though because they possibly differ from place to place.

Your hand "shouldn't" count as a fold, but different rooms have different rules. On the flip side, you probably just cost yourself a good bit of value.

In the rooms I play in, villain has to announce "raise" before putting chips in. Any chips in without announcement are automatically considered a call.
