Record keeping and session review Record keeping and session review

Hey all, so with about 800 hours of live poker under my belt, I've been doing the following:

1. Record keeping - I keep track of session length, rounded to the nearest hour, date, location, profit/loss (to the exact dollar), and that's it. Should I have more in my spreadsheet, and if so what?

2. Session Review - Consists of picking one to two hands in a session that are close and/or I'm not certain whether I made the right decision. I use a combination of PokerStove, combinatorics, and basic algebra to arrive at an EV number. I'll sometimes compute several EVs against several different ranges, which I'll name "pessimistic", "optimistic", and "normal". Pessimistic is a strong range that includes no bluffs (i.e. a range against a nit). Optimistic includes some bluffs and weaker hands that are being overplayed. Normal is between.

Also sometimes I post hands on 2+2 or discuss hands with others.

Just wondering what you guys' do for record keeping and session review. How detailed records do you keep? How many hours do you spend studying or doing session reviews?

Do you actually have notes on specific regulars? Do you attempt to calculate standard deviation? Do you attempt to calculate or estimate how much variance is hurting or helping you (i.e. determining whether you are lucky)?

There are apps that will do all this for you and it's much easier to read/convert.

As far as review. I use my voice recorder to immediately record everything i can remember about all big hands or ones I want to review. If i were you I'd post more. It's very useful.

For record keeping if you have Android, Session Logger does everything you want. If it's iPhone then Poker Journal is what you want.

Agreed, I use Poker Journal for my iPhone. And find its so much easier than documenting later. For example, whenever I top off my stack or rebuy I can immediately add it. Plus the program can run you any kind of report you want so you can see how your performing. Ill never go back to spread sheets.
