I'd recommend just playing. If you were a winner at NL100 live low stakes should be easy. Like really easy.

I'd recommend just reading this forum on how to adjust coming from online to live.

Most books about poker are awful and aren't going to teach you anything you don't know probably better than them if you were a winner at nl100 over a good sample size.

There is a lot of stuff in this sub forum about the differences between online and live, adjust etc. Just read the FAQ etc.

I'd stay away from books in general. Most of them are filled with bad live donk type advice.

edit: My bad didn't realize this topic was ancient.

I disagree with this. There are a lot of books that are relevant to LLSNL especially Miller's stuff. Also considering a lot of the players you will encounter don't read books the information they offer is relative and good.

Poker Plays You Can Use by Doug Hull is a great book. I'd put it on the level of Miller's Playing the Player.

Those two books get one thinking about your opponents mistakes and how to develop strategies to exploit those mistakes.

Hull's book wasn't written for someone that doesn't already have decent foundation of the game.

It's more of a next step book, and it requires a lot of existing knowledge to be able to take advantage of the book.

Those horribly low BB games in CA are virtually unbeatable. During a WPT event, I quickly left the low limit cash game at the Commerce and played in the 2/5 game at The Bike, where you have a better chance of beating the rake. Ed Miller's shortstacking strategy is what I would use if I was stuck at the Commerce.

This is wrong. In fact the opposite is true. While the rake is awful and the stacks only start* at 40x the game is as soft as any 1/2nl game anywhere.
The commerce 3/5nl 200buyin game is a freaking goldmine if you know what you are doing. I played there full time for nearly a year.

Don't you mean 20x?

Thought they were $40 max at $1/2

+1. How do you beat 20 BB poker when there is a rake preflop, then more rake on any flop? Isn't there a BBJ rake too? I don't think even Ed Miller utilizing optimal short-stacking strategies can beat the high rake with only 20 BB.

I'll just go with the assumption that you guys understood that the game is 40bb.

It is very possible by allowing the table to get deep and table select. "Drop" system obviously makes it less profitable to steal blinds, but given the large number of players in the pool, availability of soft games definitely compensates the horrible structure.

Just a bump. Bart Hanson's podcasts and Crush Live Poker videos on his website have been the absolute best learning material I've seen outside of 2p2, AINEC. Would recommend a subscription before anything else.

Purely books though:

1.) Professional No Limit Hold'Em Vol. 1

2.) NLHE Theory and Practice

3.) Playing the Player by Ed Miller (His hand reading book was good, more in conjunction with this book.)

4.) Poker Plays You Can Use

About to start Easy Game by Andrew Seidman once I master the above. This one seemed to be recommended a lot in this thread.

Again, though. Bart Hanson's website has been the NUTS.

I believe you can, but I watch his videos just by using Safari on my iPhone all the time. It works fine for me, might have to tap on the play icon a few times but it eventually works. If streaming and downloading is easier, I'm pretty sure Bart recommends using a third party downloader, like iDownloader or something and using that app, you can download the videos and podcasts to your iPad.

I think you can watch them from his website. But I download them, add them to my iTunes library and sync my iPad for viewing at work.

Keep in mind that they try to keep the table stocked with 1-2 weaker players so the top players will join in.

HSP isn't bad, but you don't get the sense of the flow of the game.

As for the coaching sites, you have to do a fair amount of translation to live conditions, but some concepts they cover are pretty good.
wat is PAD and what is HSP??????

admittedly I know next to nothing about B.Hanson but curious why it seems that he's gotten largely mixed reviews over time from 2p2'ers?

I was surprised not to see Annie Duke's - Decide to Play Great Poker, anywhere in this thread.

Maybe I am the only one that likes it, but for me, it is one that I go back to regularly. I will admit that reading it is work, so I got it on audiobook so I can listen to it while I am driving.

It is not your basin poker by numbers beginner's guide to poker. It is about applying math and game theory in a series of example hands that apply to several different situations each. Each given hand is run through from multiple perspective: in v. out of position; heads up v multi way, as pre flop raiser or caller.

I do not agree with everything she has to say when playing 1/2, but it is a great mental exercise to drive along and think so deeply into why to play types of hands certain ways.

Everything I've read about that book was that her advice was garbage.

Case in point.

I remember another one where she said that the more flat callers of a bet, the *tighter* the range of the next caller, as in they must have an even stronger hand. Completely backwards thinking.
