So after I almost got into a fight today, I got away from the table just to drink and socialize.

I did 10 years of French and by the end of high school could write in depth papers comparing French industries or other complex stuff, but when I went to live in the south of France for a year after HS it took me about 6 weeks to be able to speak with an accent that any normal French person could understand.

What doesn't make sense to me is that a Mandarin speaker can discern the slightest difference in pronouncing Chinese words and yet cannot get rid of some very strong and obvious accent when speaking English.

Alekhine can be pretty good, if white tries sidelines you either get a good french or even an =+ position. I got the chessable product on it but I'm only like 1/3 of the way through it.

Andrew martins chessbase vid is the nuts for a concise and unorthodox alekhine reportoire

I play the botvinnik English as white and that’s also the nuts

working on getting my tactics trainer rating on chess.com to 3000 one day. **** openings amirite

Meh studying theory as an “amateur” is like using solvers as a degen w/tilt issues at 1/2

studying openings doesn’t make sense until you cross 2200, at least once.

Players do rlly “magically” get better then and edges are small
