Amazing how your personal style changes with time. I would never had considered a tie until I got to DC. Then wore one every work day for 15 some years. Now can't really imagine a situation I'd need one.

Yep.

I used to wear one a lot when I was in advertising - mainly because I was really young for my seniority and wanted to appear more heavyweight for the senior clients. Plus my position/department was always categorised as a Ďsuití

I started out in suit and tie when I set up my business then gradually lost the tie then lost the suit and went jacket/jeans/shirt and now Iím jacket/polo/jeans in winter and just polo and jeans in summer

It helps being older and having a good reputation/position in the industry but I just think corporate dress standards have become far more informal over the past 20 years

The tie is a minor accutrethingy compared to that I have to wear a wool jacket+pants when it is 115 Fahrenheit. If we're going to stick to British customs why can't we wear Bermuda shorts?

I forgot I wore jeans and a polo for 1 hour a few months ago when I made a nice dinner and we did a stay at home date night.

Ties are horrible. When I started my job, I bought a few suits and a few ties for meetings with bankers and investors. I stopped wearing ties a few years ago and will just go sports jacket and no tie now when I absolutely have to ďdress upĒ.

This definitely is a thing. When we meet with our biggest investor. The main guy who clearly had made it wears a tee shirt and jeans. His analyst always wears a suit and tie.

Ties are ridiculous fashion accessories. If we want to close our shirt collars, we have buttons. Might as well bring back lace neckruffs.

I wear one so rarely that I have to go to YouTube to figure out how to tie a it every time.

I'm glad that the worst I ever had to endure was "business casual".

Tell me, how does wearing a strip of fabric around my neck (or even business casual, for that matter) make me a better employee?

Yeah, that's what I thought. Jeans and tennis shoes for me. Although I never got out of the habit of wearing a dress shirt (or polo type shirt in summer).

If you post something to the effect:

Tucked in shirts are a ridiculous fashion statement. If I want to be incredibly uncomfortable, Iíd cinch up my belt one more hole setting. Might as well bring back braces for daily attire.

I will know that Skippy has you locked in the basement and the above statement is a plea for assistance
