Happy 2021 everybody. One of my friends just started a new job and had to listen to an onboarding statement from the CEO

he said alot of people are out there taking advantage of all the available arbitrage. Sometimes people see cards art garages sales, they buy them $400 to arbitrage and sell them for $2k online, but then they learn that the card is a fake or not worth as much as they thought

is this an appropriate use of arbirtage?

even besides this example, is buying a sports card and then selling it later for more money considered arbitrage?

jw, I dont want to tell my friend and have her accidently argue with the CEO about his financial definitions

Arb by definition is a zero risk trade where you buy and sell at the same time locking in the margin due to market inefficiency

That would not be an example

Buying and selling collectibles for the intent to profit is not an example of arbitrage. Closer to buying and selling toilet paper.

I bought and sold sports cards for more than a decade. I know its back in fashion now that Gary Vee is in on it big time, but from my experience it is a colossal PITA and the time you sink into it will never be worth what you get out of it.

There are LOTS of fakes out there. LOTS. Even ones in PSA/BGS slabs.
Retrimmed cards are out there too. Super premium vintage stuff in particular.

I listened to an interesting pod back in the fall from a dude who was a huge commodity trader and has made billions as such. He has started trading sports collectibles in the 90s.

He said there was absolutely arb ops back then due to information advantages. His thesis was that within a year of Ebay becoming somewhat mainstream that advantage was all but gone.

My first real job was in my town where everyone had a well. I recall the day the adults were looking around for the "water main" and ignored the teenager saying it didn't exist.

I drank well water at school as a kid in Michigan. It's pretty evident I've suffered long term brain damage from it. I wonder if I can still sue.

Is it time to go all in on GME? Just give us the signal when it's time.
