Its around that time of the year and since I have know so many inspiring people in this thread im curious if you fellas would share with me your 2020 new years resolutions.

I'll go first:

1) I hope to be AT LEAST interviewing for some type of position relating to programming/technology before the years end.

2) I've managed to get the boozahol under control and am maintaining a relatively stable weight of 208-210. I think instead of setting a weight loss goal I am going to set a strength goal. Tbh im not sure what type of process-oriented goal I should set. I am open to your guise fawts.

3) Start divorce proceedings || Mrs.Deadfish gets it together.

3a) Marry my girlfriend 3b) Breakup with my girlfriend

4) Learn basic Hokkien.

5) harvest at least one deer. (this season kinda sucked for me)
Glglgl

Feel free to hit me up for mock interviews.

It's cheaper to keep her.

We'll ignore the irony of your wife getting her shyt together while you have a gf.

Personally is true; 1985 to about 1990 is when the bulk of my favorite records/artists were released. But I prob listen to more music across a larger time frame than most
My guess is that for me it was slightly later (20 - 25?) cuz growing up in the outskirts of a hick town with no cable / one bad radio station / pre-interwebz I actually just assumed music sucked.

Nice. Suburbs is a good song to open the album with, imo.

Barely passed the Slim test in that I've heard 4 of the songs off this album (The Suburbs, Ready To Start, Modern Man and Sprawl II), but that's just cuz the mothercorp radio station up here plays them at a decent clip since they're a homeland band.

One of those bands who just haven't quite made the iPod for some reason or another, and yet I can certainly dig certain songs and a few of them probably should (especially Modern Man and The Suburbs, and their first hit Rebellion). ETA: Am I the only one who gets ****ed up attempting to air drum to Modern Man while driving? I always seem to lose the beat somehow.

I just took a look at my 2010s playlist and it's barely 100 songs long. If you add the fact that it took me 3 years to catch up with what was a big pop hit (Genghis Khan), we ve established I am old and a step back with the current happenings of music.

Having said that, looking at my playlist here are some of my standouts songs:

- Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Sacrilege.

- Cage the Elephant - Trouble

- Decemberists- Sucker's Prayer

- Spoon - Inside Out

- Ok Go - Obsession

- Portugal. The Man - Purple Yellow Red and Blue

But if I had to evangelize for one band, that would be Spoon. I feel that they are doing honest rock and roll and they aren't as popular as they should be.

Oh and I ve been watching a lot of this lately. I always thought that Boulevard of Broken Dreams could go higher with a different instrument arrangement and I feel this is in the right direction.

Agreed, rickroll, totally interesting. I guess you're the new and improved BGP. Tell us more stories of living in China, or any other far away land.

My Chinese friends always discouraged me from learning Chinese, and now I finally know why.

Really? Aren’t they in fact massively popular?
I mean, I’m pretty certain they’re doing more than alright for themselves.
I enjoy a lot of their catalogue though, not saying I don’t like them.
I think they’ve got as much moniez/attention as they’d care for though.

My favorite AF song - [What song?]

Title track reminds me of being a kid [Edit: wait, so just realized this one is obvious, so too slow for me, though will prolly give the whole album a listen at full volume from home.]

Underrated gem - [What song?]

Which songs are these? Sadly my work firewall removes the youtubz.

I listened to Suburbs and Sprawl II. Both mostly too slow for me.

Then fortunately I persisted (thanks Skwid for the review/story). I like Ready to Start.

I have buddies that have been through divorces, and they lost their asses even though the splits were amicable.

Bomb pot story: table next to me does a bomb pot. 72ss cracks AA when AA turns a set completing the wheel for 72. Money goes in, river bricks and AA spends the next 5 minutes losing his mind over it. Cursing, yelling, bearing the guy for playing 72, ultimately gets security called on him.

Eventually, guy not in the hand looks at him and says “bro, it was a bomb pot. If he turned his cards over you still would have called afterwards.”

Fun times.

Welp...

The idea that Zuckerberg has essentially unlimited resources at his disposal to pour on his desire to be fluent in any language, and yet he only embarrasses himself should tell you something about Zuckerberg, not learning languages.

In a professional setting, no one wants to try to talk to a non proficient speaker when there is the option of just using a common language. The Chinese are not that unusual in this.

I'd agree with this more if he was doing this with German, Spanish or Japanese.

Mandarin is extremely difficult to learn imo especially from an English only backgorund.
