With the current vehicle shortage, there might be a market for riding mower as alternative transportation.

My EGO mower broke down and the process to fix it is pain in the ass. So I have been paying a gardener instead.

Not sure if I want to fix it anymore.

I call the other repair shops in town. They all say "we don't work on Husqvarna or we do work on Husqvarna, but not if it has a Briggs and Stratton engine. Finally get referred to a place the next town over. They don't do pick up and delivery to my town and warn my that they have a 3-4 week backlog. So the lady asks some diagnostic questions over the phone. Tells me how to test the most likely fault, and how to fix it if so. Part is $1195, and it's a ten minute job.

First guy lost himself a ridiculously profitable job with a $60 pick-up charge and a 1 hour minimum shop time.
Plantation life .

I had 2 acres and mowed it with a $350 push mower. Took me about an hour. When one died, just got a new one.

Is it just me or are modern lawn mowers much more likely to crap out than ones in our dad's era? I just don't remember him constantly dicking around with mower problems all that often, although maybe I wasn't paying attention.

Our latest lawn mower (a few years+ old?) always seems to have one problem or another. Already replaced/cleaned the carburetor a couple of times (thank you YouToob). Seems to be running ~ok this year, although rarely cutting the lawn thanks to the heat wave killing everything.

Slim's ride-on mower is a limo type where he just sits in the back behind the driver.

Unless HOA or city have a problem, just let it go natural, G. I haven't cut grass since 2015

The natural / unkept look looks horrible in a cul-du-sac where everyone else is keeping their yards tidy. Also terrible for just being out in the backyard too.

Although right now all our lawns suck due to the heat and everyone's is a nice shade of dead yellowy brown.

this is pretty much most stuff. we live in a disposable society. not to say there isn't quality stuff available, but in general the materials used tend to be lesser than in the past when comparing in the same price ranges. steel will be a thinner gauge, steel parts are swapped for aluminum or plastic, etc.

always assumed you, and every other Canadian, lived on like 800 acres of land with their closest neighbor like 5 miles away.

Think we're mostly going the opposite way now, with condos / townhouses / monster houses with very little yards being the norm in 'burb living.

Plantation owner mowing his own grass does not seem historically accurate.

I think we owned two riding and two push over a period of just under 30 years. We really only did spark plugs and oil changes. And gas. Sr Walking was adamants that every drop of gasoline had to be burnt off before the mower was put away for winter. My neighbor completely neglected his back two acres and for a few years I crossed the line to stop the reforestation.

I dunno...a guy using his mower wouldn't say the machine was performing the task. In the same way...well, I think it's pretty self explanatory

My neighbors water the fkc outta their lawn and it looks like a Scotts commercial. I run our sprinkler system 3 times a week for 5min a station and am just barely keeping it greenish.

This is wrong, you need to water once or twice a week for an hour per zone, or however long it takes to drop an inch of water
