Now that I have had a pool for 2+ years, I can't imagine having a home without one. Then again, I also can't imagine living in Canada.
Previously I was able to start using my pool in late April. This year i didn't get to use it in May because of all the rain and cloudy days we had. To me, ideal pool weather is 90+ degrees and sunny.
I wouldn't enjoy my pool nearly as much if my backyard wasn't sunny. Some people like a shady pool, but not me. Consider the location of your trees relative to the pool. Not just regarding shade but also the debris the trees will drop in the pool.
A pool heater is extremely expensive to run. I will never run my heater again barring another freeze like we had in February where I will run it just to prevent my pool equipment from being damaged. Up north y'all have to winterize your pool. I have no clue what that entails.
I find pool maintenance to be very easy if you stay on top of it. I also don't find it particularly expensive to maintain a pool.
