I can carry a golf ball pretty far, but don’t know a lot about swing mechanics in golf. Have always just been able to do it, probably from so much training for hitting in baseball.

However, I heard an interesting fact from a golf pro on club head speed this morning on the radio. He said that increasing the speed of your backswing generally increases club head speed. You may or may not already know this. I had never heard that before. Something to try though if you haven’t already.

Yes this is true. I am primarily working on the speed increase via strength training and overspeed training. We'll see how it goes.

Every 1mph increase in club speed equates to 2.5-3 yards of distance (assuming same strike quality). So if I can get to 120 that would be roughly 20 more yards of distance which would be enormous

I watched Marvin Lewis screw up clock management for a decade and a half. Jimmy H is at least 10x crappier at it than Marv ever was.

I feel like the theory on swing mechanics has changed a ton the last 5-10 years (in baseball and golf as far as I know). When my little guy has me pitch to him now I tell him to swing as hard as he can and it works so much better than trying to explain anything. Little dude just swings outta his shoes, and the results are way better than before when I’d try to explain any mechanics.
Just grip it and rip it is the new school thought as far as I can tell. Pretty sure that’s an accepted thing now for teaching kids.

The extra 20 yards means a hard 7/soft 6 iron versus a solid 5 iron for a second shot. Which given the way I hit irons the last little while doesn’t mean squat.

How’s the putter working, slim?

This year:
Kirk Douglas
Olivia de Haviland
John McCain's Mother
Sean Connery.
Probably some musicians.

It's depressing watching classic cfb replays from even the 80s. They get every tactical call concerning the clock wrong.

No doubt. Exact opposite of how I learned and it was all changed by cold hard data

Yeah 20 yards should be ~2 clubs. I recall seeing a stat that a10 yard average increase off the tee equates to almost 1 shot per round for a single digit handicap. For a higher handicap I would expect it to be more.

I still putt well. Not like I did in the day but still well. I don't practice barely at all anymore tho

RtP, there's a kid that plays at my poker room that has a higher chess rating than you He's a grandmaster. I use the term "kid" loosely as he's a couple years older than you. It's a good thing that you moved because you still have a chance to become the best poker player in your new California poker room.

What would be the reason for a much wider variation in distance between clubs?

For example

Pw-95/100
9-110
8-115
7-150
6-155/160
5- 165
4-180
3- 200
3w- duff
5w 225
7w 200ish

Was not expecting this, 4.5 stars. Would be five stars but sabr deserves a break

For anyone considering coming to Dallas for a poker vacation, I believe the best time will be a year or two from now after multiple rooms open up here. Johnny Chan was in the room the other day (for some reason I didn't see/recognize him). Apparently he will be opening up a card room in Dallas. I expect a ton of poker rooms to open up including a 2nd TCH room.

More games are starting to run at the new poker room but frankly it's mostly an uptick in grinders/pros. 5/T game has run once and was not good. 2/5 is profitable but is grinder/heavy (typical 2/5 grinders, and also 1/3 grinders that moved up because there is no 1/3 running). Late night 1/2 is super grinder heavy, probably even more grinders in that game than 2/5 which is weird. Not sure about daytime 1/2. 1/2/5 PLO is a mixed bag.

From what I've observed of 2/5 there are a few whales that have donated a lot of money in week 1 playing every single day and that's kept the games good but if those whales stop donating so much or disappear the 2/5 games could dry up quite a bit too. I think it will be better once there are more rooms open because grinders/pros will be spread out among a lot more "legal" games.
