Over has hit.

I've always wondered why they call it the "Prevent" Defense when it doesn't prevent anything and usually leads to the other team just scoring a touchdown without much difficulty...

I didn’t watch the game so I’m not sure what exactly happened, but the Prevent D is meant to stop big play touchdowns by keeping all the offensive players in front of the defenders. Typically time is a factor, so a Precent D will also cover out patterns, giving receivers easy catches in the middle of the field to prevent clock stoppages while sacrificing yardage.

Jim Schwartz, Eagles D coordinater/former HC, loves to play “sticks D” on longer 3rd downs, which is a form of the Prevent D where most of the secondary starts with their defensive positioning at the 1st down marker, with the similar points to above. What is hilariously awful about it though is that teams routinely will end up with 4th and 2 or less because the Eagles sacrifice a big chuck of yardage underneath to stop a pass to a receiver past the 1st down line. The team sometimes will then go for it on 4th down, converting some % of the time. I guess the question is do teams convert a 1st down on the 2 plays more than they would with the defense playing a conventional D, which I don’t have the answer to.

I think in general, most people are not fans of the Prevent D (I am not), but I would liken it to poker where most people don’t understand nuances of the game. A spot where a good player might fold a really really strong hand because the opponent really should only have a stronger hand looks insane to people who are bad at poker but makes sense to better players. I would guess Prevent D is similar.

Nick Kershaw

GG may be ahead of slim and zollie on this one, as several come from listening to Canadian Radio, when they had a minimum Canadian content per hour law. (is that still a thing?)

Bonus for most 80s video found while working on this list:

Which five? Bolded my guesses above. Also interested in what song you think of first for those you know.

Yeah, The Stranglers' keyboardist apparently recently died, though according to wikipedia, he was not a founding member, but joined about one year in.

Each to their own ldo, but I have zero interest in them; can't recall the last time I've watched one. For some reason my wife is working her way thru a lot of them, which I find odd cuz she's much more Downtown Abbey than Gotham City.

Sub out Kershaw for I Spy and you nailed it.

Songs by each...

Clan of Xymox-Don't recall...they were sort of a Cure/Joy Division/Depeche hybrid in a way if I recall??

The Stranglers-Always The Sun for sure

Nik Kershaw-Wouldn't It Be Good was on Pretty In Pink soundtrack

Romeo Void-Never Say never...I think that's them?? had another decent sized "hit" I think

Icicle Works-Probably most familiar with them. Had whatever record that featured "Whisper to a Scream" thugh I don't think I listened to it a ton

Almost chose Kershaw, but didn't want to choose a bunch in a row, so changed it to I Spy.

Clan of Xymox, yeah I think of them more as a Cure/Bauhaus hybrid, but your description works too.

The Stranglers, Always the Sun is not one of my faves from them. Much prefer No More Heroes.

Nik Kershaw was kind of a one hit wonder for Wouldn't It Be Good. Had a few more in the UK, most notably The Riddle.

Romeo Void, Never Say Never was their biggest "hit," though I much preferred their other song that got airplay - A Girl In Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing)

Icicle Works, Man I used to crank the stereo for Whisper to a Scream. I also have that record, as well as their later "If You Want to Defeat Your Enemy Sing his Song" LP.

By now they should have a chart for the opposing HC's 4th down tendencies. If you give up 12 yards on 3rd and 15 it's a win if the opponent will 'trust the defense.'

Same here for Marvel and Seinfeld. I didn't watch them alone but people make me feel like I did.

Yes, I was big into comics and I've really enjoyed the movies. Marvel in particular found a way to pump out good movie after good movie. That being said they've become a bit too formulaic (which is bound to happen after producing a couple dozen successful movies) and are now starting to incorporate too many SJW messages for my taste.

Since you are an adult, perhaps you should try your hand at a comic book movie that is Rated "R" I highly recommend Joker:

Also,

Sin City

Watchmen

Other good Rated "R" comic book movies that you may or may not enjoy include:

Deadpool
Dredd
Blade
Kick-Ass

i'm sure they do.

maybe not some of the really old school guys who couldn't give a **** about statistics, but most probably have the data.

i found Joker to be fairly boring. i'm in the minority and i'm ok with it.

Loved Sin City, Deadpool and Kick-Ass

Really liked Watchmen

Blade was ok

never seen Dredd w/ Karl Urban. Sly Stallone one was kinda lol, as was anything with him in it.

The Boys/The Umbrella Academy are both interesting takes on if superheros were actual people and not just generic good or evil but more nuanced. though these are both shows, so they have more time for character development

Marvel movies are def becoming much more formulaic which is why you see them moving into different genres and sub genres. Ant man was a sort of caper movie, Thor Ragnorok was a buddy comedy. Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness will supposedly be closer to a horror movie. 23 movies in and most have been fairly descent though

Apparently Judge Dredd with Stallone has a cult following but it's one of my most hated movies of all time. Dredd with Urban has pretty good action and 3D effects. I just wish it had a bigger budget so that the whole movie wouldn't have taken place in a single tower block.

Is it ok to talk about the upcoming political election without politarding? For instance, speculation about possible election outcomes.

I have some insider knowledge to report that you can't find anywhere else.

I think I watched about half of one of the Deadpool movies and thought it was ok

I took my kids to see Wonder Woman and I enjoyed it but that’s the only one I’ve watched all the way through
