Back improved enough for me to get out and enjoy camping this week.

Now considering whether it's good enough to risk a ~20km in / ~20km out / decent elevation change 3 night hike that me and my siblings/etc. have planned in 1.5 weeks time. Haven't done a real overnighter ~hike in 1.5 decades.

1.5 weeks ago I was prone on the ground and couldn't move for ~15 minutes, and now I'm strongly considering (probably extremely stoopidly?) doing this.

seems like a tall order mang. I assume you are going to do a smallish trial run sometime this week to make sure you are somewhat up to the task?

Run and hike very different for pulled backs, imo. I can usually do a decent hike weeks before I can run even half a mile.

That said, I'd be very worried about the pack for an overnight hike. Can you pawn all your gear off on your siblings?

trial run does not mean running - meant a trail go of a smaller hike with a pack on his back to verify that he can ackshually carry some weight for a decent amt of time

got a question for the olds

i used to play 12-15 tables at a time just a few years ago - these were 99% full ring mtts so lots of folding

mostly playing spins now, so a lot more action as either 3 handed or heads up

one table and i can do other things while i play, two tables and i no longer do other stuff but play but it's still super casual and a lot of waiting

but holy mother of covid baby jesus if i play 3 or dare I attempt 4 tables my head just about explodes, it's damn near impossible to play without timing out at some of the tables and quality of play drops dramatically

not going to lie, it's kind of scary, possible that this is just the nature of spins/hu and i'm pretty naive in adoption etc but it definitely feels like my brain is slowing down and it's scaring the crap out of me

I should definitely fill the backpack and go for a hike around the neighbourhood just to get a feel for it. Also going to get back to working on the back deck a bit just to see if I can get back into the swing of normal things without going all feeble.

A week ago I wouldn't have even entertained this thought, but I am feeling much better now and the stretches are helping. Still, big risk putting it out mid-hike and that would certainly suck for everyone. But it's one of those trips that I think I'll really regret missing, so really trying to balance risk / reward.

I found 4 cash tables about the limit for me, rr Full-ring was my game.

I also took old biz monitors and erected a 5 screen wall in front of me. Really helped....but still 4 was it after turning 55ish. (maybe 8 tables before)

Back in the day I could pretty comfortably 12 table 6-max LHE (which plays faster and requires more button clicks overall). These days, I had gotten up to 12 tables of 6-max NLHE on NJPP, and then they changed the software so 12 tables doesn't fit nicely on my laptop screen anymore, and also changed it to reduce time per decision and I'm only playing 8-9.

I think most of the various softwares have been updated to go faster (reduced times to decide, cards dealt faster, and similar), so I don't think it's your brain slowing, although to be fair, mine could be too...

rick - short answer is you are getting old. Take a look at when video gamers peak for example. Every decade it gets a little worse. I have taught an absolute shitload of people how to hangglide. Doing it tandem is by far the most effective way (immediate feedback from instructor).

Our average age of student these days is retirement+. Dudes that have had a fascination for a long time but life simply got in the way. Getting your license via tandem aerotow takes minimal fitness/strength (I can do it with 1 finger). The average number of tandems it takes someone 60+ vs a young brain is staggering. Theses are smart dudes that have had life success. Their brain just does not process the info nearly as fast as a young brain and frequently it takes em 2 or 3x the number of flights to learn these skills that require the brain to multi task quickly.

My memory has definitely been slipping. I've noticed in the past year more than ever that I can't think of the precise word for something right away. Just constantly have that tip of the tongue feeling. And once in awhile I'll get up to do something and then forget for a second what I was going to do.

It's been noticeable enough that I think I should go get checked out.

For me it was when I couldn't remember the favorite actor names in shows I've always watched.

Same. Early 50's, regularly struggle to find the right word or that one guy from that one show's name, you know, he was also in that one thing, with the chick?
