wiki sez it is. but i grew up on it, at the time even the album discipline (1981) was considered progressive rock. I think if you ask people from that era they will agree with me more often than not.

the fact that Jaffe is ranting about this doesn't mean that it isn't true...it proves that it is true.

whether you call it people skills or dick sucking or both...(and IME, those who aren't good at influencing/building relationships with people call it politics or kissing ass or dick sucking etc, whereas those who are good at it recognise it as a skill) if those things weren't important and he was printing money from public 25:50 games or whatever... he wouldn't be ranting about it

is it wrong? maybe, maybe not
is it reality? yep
will it change? yes...private/closed games are only gonna get more prevalent and nits (both poker and personality), dicks and unlikable people are gonna find it even harder to get into games

this is a fact: all other things being equal, being good with people will make you far more in poker and in almost every other profession on earth

I agree with that. It’s unrelated to the point that I was making (Ime)

The vast majority of people need to be given opportunities to compensate or not being better than their peers etc. and it’s much easier to convince someone to give you one or in this context possess the charisma, “skills” (lol) to get into these games etc. etc. than thrive w/out them.

Nobody is arguing that it’s highly advantageous and +EV to be able to suck dick well. regardless of gender.

I’m trying to say that A) it’s far from necessary B) Call it what it is like Jaffe was saying. Doesn’t require experience to know this. Just be better than your peers (pros, recs, and fish- not just fish in this context) so you don’t have to seek shortcuts at the expense of your virtues/ethics etc.

tldr; fake laughing at a whale’s jokes or stroking them (literally and figuratively) is NOT a skill. keeping the whales happy is also not a skill. It’s trying to appease people just because they have something you want (money).

If you’re talking the type of networking that includes developing relationships even nerds like me are good with that. Just be kind, authentic, and your self.

imo

so basically I agree with anyone who says don’t step down to a level where you’re fake laughing at someone’s jokes because you’re pathetic.

If that’s what you feel is necessary, by all means.

Spoiler:
Not you specifically feelie (just in general)

100%, the kind of guy who poasts online an angry rant about dick sucking wouldn't even begin to have the social skills to recognize what social skills are

king crimson has so much potential and often on the verge of greatness but is ultimately boring because they just fail to push it beyond melodic dentist music into something recognizable with peaks and flow

RtP, or AIM,

Thoughts on the Leningrad Dutch as black vs. d4?

A guy I know who's way better than me loves that as black, says it's even better than the Nimzo Indian... which I had always assumed was THE by-the-book response to d4/queen's gambit whores and leads to an otherwise positionally even game with promising counterplay opportunities..

Every time I play it, they put a bishop on c5 and f*** my whole world up with that or their queen after I castle kingside

Although a fairly Normie band, I actually like their first 4 or 5 records. Their live shows are interesting tho they tend to devolve into Grateful Dead style jam band shiterry quickly

I just feel like there's great musicality in there, but it builds up without ever paying off. Like a big developing wave that then sinks quietly back into the sea instead of cresting.

I wouldnt consider k crimson sounsing anything like new wave. Most of the vanguard of new wave sound popped up in the 70s elvis costello joe jackson, the cure, duran duran etc. 60s had a lot of experimental sounds, fusing rock, jazz, orchestral, some early synthesizer. K crimson is closer to moody blues than anything else and no one ever accused moody blues of being new wave.

Leningrad Dutch is OK, if you like it. The best opening has more to do with how comfortable you are in the structure/positions you arrive at in the middle game than computer eval.

iirc you don’t like fast time controls but I recommend hammering a lot of speed games for volume with attention to your opening play. Try to look at the explorer (database) afterwards to check if you’re playing the correct moves.

Looking at grandmaster games in those positions will be beneficial as well.

Naka has played it quite a bit.

Good vid on it

Correct generally thought to be an amalgam of punk, glam, krautrock and other musical styles. And yes I think 77-ish is considered the beginning of that era. There are sub groupings of the "New Wave" label as the sounds and sensibilities are rather diverse...evidenced by the 4 bands/artists you referenced

Pop music critics are the evil twin of pop start fake biographers. You can spend ten minutes right click searching a sentence and just win another 100 new trade words.

IDK if I ever heard a DMB song on the radio. Maybe crash? And it definitely fits the DMB standard of build, build, build... nevermind.
