I've seen this accusation before in juicy home games I played in DFW before I moved. New player comes in.... runs bad, plays bad e.t.c... loses a chunk of money and then says he's being cheated when I know for a fact that the game is legit.
Meaning if it truly is a whale infested game, what incentive does the host have for cheating? Just a rumor of that being true will kill a game. And doing it at 25/50 just seems very unlikely.
Yeah, the friend I'm referring to used to play at KoJack's (+/-) full time. He's a seasoned professional and has a definite skill edge so I don't think a lack of perspective is an issue here. As for losing "a lot" (relative) of money, that can happen to even the best player in the game of course.
I don't remember what the exact steaks were but some stacks in HHs I've been sent were over $20,000 iirc. Lots of straddles. I believe it varied as well.
He got invited through a connection since he used to work in oil before quitting to play poker. The whales were mostly oil guys.
With regards to the cheating, he said some of the players had special glasses(!) that allowed them to see the cards. Sounds crazy, but I believe him. He has a good head on his shoulders and is pretty transparent.
I can't speak for the incentive for someone really wealthy to cheat. I'll be honest in that I'm not too familiar with the dynamic that exists in these home games.
I'm not sure if that game still runs or if there was a resolution since I haven't asked. I'm now curious how he figured that out etc. LOL but w/e.
On another note, is it really worth the risks- especially at high stakes?
