The World's Largest Rattlesnake Roundup is this weekend.

https://www.bigcountryhomepage.com/n...irus-concerns/

Being a member of the Lion's Club, which gives everyone in town the false impression that I'm a fine upstanding pillar of the community, I volunteered to work.

Later today I will be showing a bunch of carnies where to set up their ****. Just as a matter of course I would never touch them and try to stay at least 3 feet away and stay upwind. Not too worried.

Thursday I will be taking money for parking. Have decided to break out the latex gloves I keep in my hunting crap that I use when cleaning dead animals. Not so much that I'm worried about handling money without them, but I am worried about touching my face afterwards. With gloves on, hopefully I won't do that.

Friday just working the car show. Only have to get them registered and show them where to park. Again not too worried. Then I'm done for the weekend.

Still I'm likely to come within coughing distance of thousands of people from who knows where. Pray for me.

if Scranton can cancel their St. Patrick's Day parade i think it's time to reevaluate when i'm willing to go to. Scrantonites are fanatical about this parade. more so than basically everything else.

(Scranton is that place that you all know from The Office, located in NE Pennsylvania. they have like the 5th-ish biggest St. Patrick's Day parade in the country)

Home base for the weekend. Maybe I need to get one of the cool thermometer guns and shoot people in the forehead before they can enter camp to keep out the Coronas?

You want me to put the good stuff behind the good stuff?

Yeah, think I've done a real 180 in the last day too. I originally thought it was just another run-of-the-mill hysteria thing like we have happen all the time, but seems that might not quite be the case here. NBA suspending (undoubtedly followed by the NHL any day now) and other examples really driving that home.

Saturday was going to be my poker day, but I've decided to take a pass on that.

If we all stay home for 2 weeks, will that make most of the hysteria die down?

I’d be down with not having to see the ******* I call a boss for 14 days.

And if it means life goes back to normal that much faster, then I support the idea fully.

Even on the cruise ships, fewer than 20% of the people tested positive.
I'm weird, acceptance of the likelihood of a negative outcome calms me and helps me focus on what I should be doing. E.g. every on-site interview I go to I tell myself I already didn't get the job and just to enjoy the pagentry of it all. Kills the nerves and helps me focus.

It seems 67o is either gonna have to confront his poker withdrawal headaches or accept the corona.

My buddy is going to try to buy the bottom of top airlines end of this month. He thinks two weeks until peak hysteria. Getting my popcorn ready. I might put in a smaller bet for the sweat.

I used to get super nervous in interviews. Until I had one where they asked me to come up with a solution for a recent problem they had. They had a solution in prod that was ~46 lines, mine should be similar, and the output should match the format of theirs.

The solution they wanted was hot garbage. I confirmed 3 times this was what they had in production and asked why they were doing it that way. Their response wasn't very good so I subsequently ended the interview early.

Remembering that we need to be interviewing prospective gigs as much as they're interviewing us has helped a lot.

Wouldn't it be cool to open carry it in a holster and randomly draw it old west style and take people's temp. Conversation thereafter should be hilarious.

Maybe this will make you feel better...

The 2009 flu pandemic in the United States was a novel strain of the Influenza A/H1N1 virus, commonly referred to as "swine flu", that began in the spring of 2009. The virus had spread to the US from an outbreak in Mexico.[116]

As of mid-March 2010, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that about 59 million Americans contracted the H1N1 virus, 265,000 were hospitalized as a result, and 12,000 died.
Folks may or may not remember... there was no panic at the time due to the virus.

12000/59000000 = .0002 or a .02% mortality rate.

corona is showing about a 1% mortality rate

~50x more fatal is kind of a big deal
