1/2 NL at Charlestown, WVa.
Villain Notes: Gambler type. He was there in hopes of hitting the bad beat jackpot (HIS WORDS) and was just having a good time gambling it up. Played probably 60-70% of his hands. Built up a pretty good stack sucking out on folks ($1600 ish). I saw him call oversized pot bets on 2 streets chasing a flush, in at least 2 hands that went to showdown - different hands (and he hit...thus the big stack). So I had a mental note to make sure I value bet this guy hard!
Effective stack was what I had: ~$300
Table was loose and lotta folks were taking stabs at this villain. Unimportant sub-villain straddled for $5...MAIN VILLAIN CALLS.
I have A
J
in SB and I raise to $20 hoping to ISO villain.
It worked...POT = ~$45
FLOP: J

I bet $45 (given the stack to pot ratio, against this villain, I felt committed to this hand and was going to get my 3 streets of value).
Villain raises to $120! - honestly this surprised me. I had not seen him be the aggressor while I was at the table, so I was not sure if he had the flush draw any longer...and I really had a to take a minute to figure out my next play...
He probably viewed me as a gregarious guy, aggressive, regular (I think the waitress called me by name or something).
WHAT'S THE PLAY?
