[Question] Wondering about cold calling [Question] Wondering about cold calling

Since I've been trying to transition from online to live, I wanted to know how you guys would approach cold calling.

The game that I currently play in is pretty ****, but I'm using it mostly to get some live experience and get used to the dynamics live before moving up.
Currently playing 2/2 75bb cap.

Coming from online 6max 25NLz / 50NLz I do not have a cold calling range, except OTB.
Now I'm split between two thoughts when it comes to live:

- The rake is high (10% 5bb cap) so three betting liberally and taking it down pre seems good

vs

- I can't go crazy three betting at a full ring table consisting of people that just want to see flops / gamble and three betting a lot just creates postflop spots with a super low SPR (< 2,5).

Happy to receive your input regarding developing a cold calling range in these types of games.

Construct a range of value and hands that play well multiway. Kind of the same way you would create a polarized BB vs BU range for online. 3betting live doesnt work nearly as often as online and you will see tons of cold calls. Your really just going to have to experiment and it will vary greatly based on the players at your table for that particular session and where they're seated in relation to you. live you dont have to be nearly as strict to be successful. The mistakes your opponents will make postflop will far outweigh any small preflop errors you could make. If you were a winning player online then your going to crush any 1/2 or 2/2 live game with relative ease.

Don't forget that when the pot goes multiway, the percentage of the rake that consists of dead money goes up.

In general, you should have a cold calling range in live no limit. It should not be very wide, but it should exist. There will be hands that you would like to take multiway, like medium and small pocket pairs, and some others when you start getting deeper.

Agree with Vernon. Against most villains, I don't 4bet AA and KK precisely because that range isn't wide to protect my calls.

Thanks for the input guys.
I'll try the following as a baseline, but because we're never actually deep it's fairly tight:

Cold call:
22-TT/JTs-ATs/QJs-KQs

Three bet:
JJ+/AJs+/AQo+/T9s/A5s

Preferably I'd like to have a wider three betting range that isn't so heavily skewed towards value, but I don't think I have a lot of options with this structure.
