Hi all,

1/3. V is competent British reg. He covers. Hero is effective stack with $400. Straddle is on and hero raises BTN with QQ to $20. SB and straddle/V call.

Pot $57.

Flop: 7x-6x-2s. Checked to hero and hero checks it back.

Turn: 6s. V leads out for $30. Hero calls. SB folds. Pot $117.

River: 7d. V bets $100. Hero? When we check flop, are we committed to calling down most runouts? Is this one of them?

Thanks,
DT

I don't mind how we played the hand (obviously we can bet the flop but checking behind is hardly horrible). Against a competent pro (i.e. I read this as someone who is capable of bluffing instead of just ABC checking whiffed hands to showdown) I'd lean towards a hero call on the river. He could be value betting worse / attempting to get us off a chop, there are semi-bluff draws that have busted, plus his bet is large and mostly indicating he wants us to fold our what-looks-like A high (more than begging for a call with it). We'll get shown a boat here every once and a while and feel stupid, but I think we'll showdown the best enough.

Yes....I'm sure your flop check will make 2+2ers heads explode, but I say well played....not every time but as a curveball once in a while. Nobody will ever put you on an overpair here and you will catch lots of bluffs and trap lots of weaker hands. He shouldnt have a 7 very often so Im never folding. If he happens to have a 7, you lost less than if you had bet the flop.

QQ wants to bet flop more often than KK or AA but check is fine at some frequency as long as you're mainly betting.

River you're gonna have to call if you don't have the Qs but even if you do I think you might still have to call

As others have stated regarding the flop, I wouldn't be checking behind every time, but I think we've picked a decent time to do this. Against hurp durp calling stations, likely better to lean to a bet; with a competent hand reader /bluff capable pro in the hand when not committed, checking behind a decent amount of the time is fine.

I don't hate checking the flop HU against a LAG player but this is not the correct situation to do that. Next time 2/3 pot OTF.

As played, fold river.

3-way to the flop with QQ I almost always prefer cbetting. HU it might be ok but in general i think QQ is a bet.

ott std.

otr I call quickly, dont slowroll him. if he has a FH gg.
