Hi all,

UTG+1 is really active and probably the only player I don’t want to play against at the table.

Effective stacks are 400 except for the one V

UTG+1 raises to 11 older lady only has 90 and calls we have two red Q’s and 3 bet to 46 button just FLATS

UTG+1 calls lady goes all in 90 total

We can only call and everyone calls

(360 in the pot preflop)

Flop is A 5 2 UTG+1 checks

What is our plan here ?

I would challenge that. Most rooms don't have a "required to double the bet" rule for a raise. Most rooms have a "required to double the raise" which she did (she raised 44 more after you raised 35).

As played, it is a protected pot. There's no draws and the only hand you fold that you don't beat is KK. Check behind, see what the turn is. FWIW, I'd check here with AK too.

With old lady being so short (and with < $100 stacks going in so easily in my game) I would typically just 3bet to $90 here; if UTG+1 comes over the top we can probably make a hero fold. Our raise size is too small as even HU against just the V it will create an SPR 3.5 pot (we'll never be able to fold an overpair) and yet at the same time it's giving the V about 12:1+ IO (not great but no horrendous enough for my liking). We basically just don't want the good guy in the pot (yeah we'll be in position with QQ but is it really going to be *that* profitable inviting this guy along?). As played I think we have to ship when the action is re-opened; he's an active player which I'm assuming is raising a lot and seeing a lot of flops, so if he wakes up with AA/KK I'm going to chalk it up to fairly coolerish.

There should only be $180 in the pot. QQ is simply going to see far too many A/K flops (which will suck against an active player who can put us in gross spots) which is a big reason we shoulda shoved preflop.

Pot is protected by the all-in so less reason to bet, although sometimes active players still will take the opportunity to bet their 99/etc. to get us off our KK/etc. and hope they are better than the shortstack all-in.

FWIW: In my room for the betting action to be re-opened the shortstack shove only has to be 1/2 as big as the raise. Make sure you know your room rules regarding this, and make sure you absolutely clarify this with the dealer/floor when action is on you if there is any question.

Check sigh fold unless if we hit the Q on the turn. Someone has an A here almost always. If Villains have smaller pocket pairs, they are unlikely to be bluffing when there is an allin player already

1. You raised $35 on top of UTG+1's $11 raise to $46

2. Older lady raised $44 on top of your $35 raise from $11 to $46 to $90.

3. Action is re-opened.

If the dealer cannot figure this out ask for the floor or someone who has an understanding of 1st grade arithmetic.
