Ahoy, I'm new guy on the block.

I used to play a lot of LSLNL 8-10 years ago, mostly to bankroll my education, now I'm doing it for fun/some side income/out of boredom because of COVID. I've read some theory a billion years ago, but I'm somewhere in between crappy and below average.

International game, I'll just stick to BBs, the amounts don't mean much and I play in a considerably cheaper country than the US.

The poker room I play in is a bit of a mad house, buying in with less than 300 BBs is close to meaningless, the standard reflop raise is anything between 5 and 25 BBs, the average is like 12-15. You can straddle 2-3 BBs UTG and it can be doubled up all the way to the BTN in theory, also there is a possible BTN straddle which has no limit (the largest I've seen was like 200BBs).

Hero: probably seen as nitty, I've been sitting at the table for 2.5 hours, shown a KK which got destroyed by T3s, AA once, and AQ twice, stole a few smallish pots, that's about it. Approx 700BB deep.

Villain: 30 something guy, LAG, shown okay hands, is capable of moves.

Hero is on the BTN, Villain is 3BB straddle.

2 stations call the straddle, the rest folds to Hero, Hero raises to 21BB, Villain raises to 61BB. Hero decides to call.

Flop: 27Jr

Villain donks 122 BB

Hero?

I'm not even sure about the pre-flop game, do we 4-bet smallish and fold to shove? I'm normally comfortable playing deep, but this was such a weird spot.

I guess the big question is: how do people play against raises? Have there been a lot of 3 bet pots?

I’ve seen players who will open like 60% of hands when folded to, but their 3 bet pretty much means QQ+ exclusively (like they’ll flat call AKs).

In this instant, he’s basically saying he has it. It being hands like AA or JJ. Or he’s an idiot. So if we want to start making superhero folds, a hand like this that doesn’t really block any sane value is a good start. At the same time, I feel bizarre folding an overpair in the described game on the flop on J72r

Hero are Villain are the only ones at the table who have made any 3-bets, excluding the maniac truly, madly, deeply high on cocaine, whom I lost the KK vs T3s hand to.

Effective stack is more like 200bb or less, doesn't mean I'm keen to commit with the weakest possible overpair but it's not playing like 700bb normally does IME.

Villain's cbet seems unusually large for this bone-dry board, any reads on that? I tend to think he's trying to get the money across the line because he could surely bet less with AK and get folds from mid-pairs.

It was unusally large, he never made similar bets before or after. Donking this big says thanks I'll take it right now so loudly that I ever started to consider him having QQ as well.

Donking means leading into the last aggressor. This is a cbet.

I would 4b / fold pre. As played gotta peel flop imo

I ended up hero folding, showed them to get some info, villain was a bit annoyed and showed AA.

Your range should be quite wide on the button. Villain's range to 3bet I think should be relatively wide as well, because of your range. When you call, a lot of your Aces drop off, meaning this non-Ace board should hit your range harder than villain's.

It may be a theoretical check for villain? Live I would definitely just bet but I think villain should be betting much smaller here.

When he bets this big, it's extremely polarising. My guess is we should peel QQ but it's probably not terrible to let it go.

EDIT

I tend to think villain is not a good player based on this hand.

What is your hand? And villain didnt donkbet because he 3bet you, he just made a standard cbet.
