1/2 nl, 9 handed

Villain has only played for about an hour at the table, but I've seen him call 2/2 3 bets, once with 57 suited for 20% of his stack. He then called a pot sized shove which put him all in on a 478 rainbow flop.

1 limp
UTG +1 ($400) raises to 12
Button ($200) calls
villain in Sb ($320) calls
Hero in BB raises to $60 with QQ
folds to villain who calls

flop ($146)
456

Ugh. Villain checks. Villain has $260 behind and hero covers. Hero tank shoves.

Seemed like a tough spot. Shove? Bet-call? Bet Fold?
I shoved because villain seemed like he'd be fairly wide, and him folding a low diamond is good for me. Couldn't see check folding being good after committing such a large portion of my stack, and didnt want to encourage a check shove from a diamond that otherwise [I]might[I] fold. Thoughts? Thanks!

Shove more quickly don't tank if you tank is rather check and jam all non diamond turn

V is a terrible player. Anyone who flats a 3! with 57s, for 20% of their stack, is just awful. This flop, obviously, sucks. But with an SPR below 2 and a brain dead villain, I'm still going for value. $90 OTF, shove all non-diamond turns.

Nice raise size preflop.

I think shoving is OK, as he will call you with lots of worse hands and it's ok if he folds some hands, though IDK what low diamond hands he would fold. Maybe 9t with one daimond. You can also make a smaller bet on the flop for value and to see how he reacts. Make sure to have enough behind to fold, though. Main thing to avoid is letting him get optimal results. Like, if you bet $120 or something, then he can get the rest of your stack when things are good for him, and fold when they are bad, either on flop or turn. If you think he can bluff you on a diamond, be more inclined to shove.

This is a situation in which you should be able to get a lot of reads. If you can process it quickly enough, you should act quickly on the flop so he doesn't have time to process everything himself and get comfortable. Then you can watch him decide what to do. Obviously irrelevant if you shove.

I think you played this perfectly and like the flop shove. I don't think bet/folding is an option on the flop due to PSR.

Great 3bet sizing pre. You've built a big pot and are putting yourself in a great position before the cards come out.

Villain's call here has by and large committed you if no K or A hits the flop. This is a disastrous flop for our hand but we are still usually ahead of Villain here. If he flopped the flush, straight, or 2 pair so be it. If he has any pair, straight draw, or high flush draw he will likely call the shove. Too much money in the pot for either of you to get away (that was the plan pre-flop, right?).

I don't think bet/folding is an option because the pot will be massive and we are getting absurdly good odds to call villain's shove (which he could be doing with any big draw or pair/draw). I also don't think checking is an option with the PSR where it is, no way we can give a free card or check/fold this here. So best of the poor options is to shove flop, which you did.

Tough spot, but that was out of your control. You played the hand perfectly.

Given the awkwardness of the 1.5x pot shove on the flop, I could see making it $75 preflop to give you a more natural shoving stack on the flop.

He called a pot-sized shove with middle pair and a gutshot. Assuming there wasn't some special dynamic with other V in that hand, our boy likes to call.

If we bet $100, we're giving him about 4:1 implied odds unless we're willing to fold on a 4 flush board.

If we're committed, we need to bet more than $100 in order to deny flush or straight draws the right odds to continue. After all, if he likes to call, giving him the right odds to make a call correct is a bad error on our part.

Because he's so short now, he's pretty much going to see two more cards. Anything that calls the flop will also have the right odds to call the turn.

Given all this, and the fact that he likes to call, I think we let him make the biggest mistake by shoving. I don't like a small bet as it may well make his mistake a good play.

Played well, especially against this guy. I hope you held.
