Hi all,

1/3 MGM National Harbor. Hero is playing short on purpose ($100). Hero raises EP $18 with QcQh. Four callers including blinds. Pot $90.

Flop: Kc-Js-9s.

Blinds check, hero checks, last two players check.

Turn: 4d. BB (seems fishy) bets $17. Hero calls. LP calls. Pot $141.

River: 9c. BB bets $30. Hero? Smelled like a K or better, but for this price I have to call, no?

Thanks,
DT

Just another marginal spot where you’re counting on him betting worse for value to consider a second call. Kind of want to bet flop.

Sizing on the flop? $35? One problem is that this flop is wetter than the Atlantic. I am likely getting called. So I am probably checking the turn and potentially facing a bet OTR anyway.

If you're playing $100, I would limp and shove when there's $30-40 in the pot preflop

If you're going to SS, read up on proper SS strategy.

As others have said, this is a limp/shove pre sure to position.

And the times you don't you have the best hand a bunch, got a street, and a SD. It's also ok not to put in another dollar post 4-handed. Just a routine get to showdown cheap and quick type hand.

You can still be profitable playing a shortstack strategy.

Just because you are playing shortstack doesn't mean you can't limp/reraise.

Kinda meh flop but with slightly less than a ~PSB I probably just go ahead and shove anyways. We're not folding better, but we can get called by worse (flush or straight draws, perhaps any pair with this super low SPR, etc.) and if called by Kx we still have outs (we're sitting at about 3:1 against Kx which ain't bad getting 2:1 on the flop all things considered).

On the turn, as played, even though it is a bet into the world, it's still a pretty damn small bet on a drawy board; I could see Kx checking to flop to tarp the raiser, but at this point in this size pot I think they'd typically bet more. So I jam again.

On the river, as played, yeah I guess a sigh call can't be horrible for this price.

When you play this short, you'll sometimes just have to bite the bullet on meh boards and go with your hand at SPRs around ~1, imo.

Yes, if he would commit to a SS strategy.

Moreso, this is a core element to any winning SS strategy.

If your plan is to call the turn, then bet the darn flop instead. Gives you more ways to win.
