Profitable Move?

Playing 1/2

BTTN straddle to 4$, 4 callers
Hero in late postion flats with A9

BTTN raises to $12 ,
2 Callers.

Flop: A93 rainbow

Hero: Check behind to slow play
Villain: Raises to $45

I've been playing with this player for a while he must have ~150 - 200 behind very tight player who rarely re-raises.

Ideas / Opinions?

Re: Profitable Move?

Really bad to flat with this hand in a limped pot. It can only ever lead to a disaster. If you want to play this hand come in for a raise. Only time I'd personally open with it is if I was FMI in late position. Unless you're raising this hand as FMI on the button or the blinds it's certainly not a good play.

Re: Profitable Move?

I assume button bet the flop? Why are you calling with this hand preflop if you're going to fold when you flop top 2?

Re: Profitable Move?

I'm against calling pre. As played the only choice is a shove.

Re: Profitable Move?

Raise preflop. There's a lot of limpers and dead money in the pot, you have a good hand, and you have late position.

As played, once you get raised by the button, you should fold. Your hand is too likely to be dominated by a raiser and he'll have position on you after the flop.

Once you get to the flop this way, you need to play for stacks. Because villain open raised preflop, you're really only losing to AA and 99 (he doesn't often have 33). That's only two combinations. Meanwhile, you beat AK and AQ (sixteen combinations!). Shove and be happy about it...despite the results.

Re: Profitable Move?

This reminds me of a hand I played yesterday where I had ak and the flop came ak4, obvious check fold spot I thought....villan showed 79 for a bluff, but you just never know.....
What sort of a game are we playing if we are check folding top two on the flop....
Terrible hand to limp with pre as well...

Re: Profitable Move?

Welcome to the forum, OP. I locked this as it is troll-bait, and I hope that you weren't trolling yourself, but are just that much of a beginner. Trolling is not allowed in LLSNL.

I'm going to assume that you're serious though. Please don't post results in the future, including your last action and also even if you put it in a spoiler. People can't resist reading it and it biases their advice.

As played, bet flop. Slow playing is almost never right.

V does not raise on the flop. He just bets. You can't raise if no one has bet yet.

Folding the 4th nuts to one bet is just ridiculous, especially if V is the PFRer, and thus has a ton of big aces that you cooler in his range.
Fold pre, both times, but especially after the raise.
